Is Arkansas a safe and cheap place?

I personally went to University of Memphis
and I travelled through arkansas
living in that part of the country you are sure going to have rednecks.
but dont let that bother you - like I said college kids make their own fun no matter what happens .. on spring break head to florida or south carolina and have some fun there.
like the guy said a few posts up - its a small town with not alot to do - and thats what I figured anyway.
Im sure you will have a great time - just meet tonnes of people and never say no to any invitation.

Thanks a lot man for ur reply, but are rednecks dangerous , they will kno im not american, im african , arab, muslim, will i have problems? I Don't want to die in the 1st year of college, thanks alot

LOL, well I'm an African American female, and I went to a predominately "Caucasian" high school and never experienced any racism, but I did go there all 12 years and grew up with most of the people. Yet, college is a lot different and there are diverse backgrounds of people and teachers. Yes there are "rednecks" here and a lot of them lol, but you shouldn't be harassed by anyone especially in a college setting where people should be more mature. I'm not going to say people won't look at you funny, but that just comes with being from another country and southern people are used to eachother and not "outsiders'. Just make some good friends and get your education and forget about rude people because you will find those type anywhere you go. But, if you have to go to a college in Arkansas I suggest the University of Central Arkansas in Conway http://www.uca.edu/ you will definitely find a more diverse student population there as its in a bigger city and only a few minutes from North Little Rock.

Thanks a lot for taking time to reply me, and thanks for the link, it seems a pretty good university, and of course you're right, i don't think i won't be leaving the campus because anyway there'sn't much to do in the city.

Unfortunately, I am serious. Gotta think man, everyone from hurricane Katrina was displaced to the north. A lot of people settled in southern Arkansas. I lived there before this happened, so I can only imagine what it's like now.
I'm joking about the shoe part though, because if they really wanted your wallet, they would just kill you for it.
But you should not let danger hinder you from pursuing education. Any place can be dangerous, southern Arkansas just happens to be a bit more dangerous than other places.

Thats funny, But yea you will find danger anywhere you go it's all about being street smart and not getting around the wrong crowd of people or in the wrong neighborhoods. I walk my dogs everday in my neighborhood and never really worry about danger, but I live in a middle/high class neighborhood and I definately know the areas not to frequent unless its during the day lol. A college campus should have decent security and guards on duty during all hours.

why don't you email the international student section/co-ordinator
and ask if there are other students with similar background etc to you attending the school already (international students)
and maybe send them an email and tell them you coming and you would like to meet up etc etc

ditto ..but the college mascot is the "Muleriders" and they have a farm on campus and a rodeo team..so there u go lol.

I have to agree that NW Arkansas is beautiful(avoid the eastern part, it's beautiful too but muggier than muggy, and the economy there is pretty bad). Still I would not recommend that anyone confine him or herself to Magnolia and its environs, unless you like listening to the local dogs bark, and watching cars go by for your daily entertainment. I was born in Arkansas and I love it but you need to know what you are getting yourself into. It can really be cultural desolation for someone who's used to the the city life. Get tons more info before you commit. If you like to hunt, it's great for that.

Inother words, don't do it. Try Phoenix, Az instead. It's hot during the summer but there are lots of international communities there and the people are great. Very tolerant of others. and the women are the most beautiful on earth, and lots of them. I'm going back myself.

But seriously, I have to wonder why an "african, arab, muslim" kid is thinking about going to school in EXTREMELY rural America. If you're getting a scholarship in Magnolia, you could probably get one someplace with more potential for tolerance.
I've spent time in a lot of the US, including Arkansas, and I can tell you that there is still a high level of intolerance toward African-AMERICAN Christians in that part of the country.** I cannot even imagine trying to live there with your background.
So, if you still end up in Magnolia here's a little bit of advice for you: don't go down to the gas station (or the Walmart) and ask anyone "Where's your local mosque?"
**I've also lived in Chicago, New York, and Miami and there can be an equal level of intolerance in some neighborhoods...and some of those neighborhoods are bigger than the entire town of Magnolia AR.

Arkansas is very beautiful especially the northern half of the state. I moved to Arkansas 10 years ago. I've been to 26 out of 50 states and Arkansas is one of the best. I have a daughter going to UCA right now and they have a large number of international students. I'd highly recommend checking out UCA if you want to be in a nicer area of the state and near a metro area.
