Publishing article in newspaper to get SEO clients?

Getting straight to the point, I am considering to start offering SEO service locally in my site. The city has many industries and is business capital of my area but the people are totally ignorant about their online existence. I have contacts with some local newspapers and I can get my article published without much effort.

Also, I am good at building sites, so it wont take me much time to build them websites as well,if needed.

Presently I am working with 3 local companies and they are satisfied with the performance, so local references are also available with me.

1. Do you think its going to get some good clients?
2. What points should I focus in my article?


P.S.: There are some service providers providing SEO and Web development services in the area but I bet none of their employees have ever seen scrapebox in action, they for sure have not have heard of xrumer of other tools.

3. How can I convince the potential clients that those service providers are jerks!

If you want to take on clients then newspaper articles (if you can sneak your url in the byline) would be amazing advertising because a) it's free; and, b) you come across as far more credible than if you were just advertising. You would come across as an expert who is published in the paper!

I would focus on the benefits that SEO can bring to business owners ie. brand new stream of leads and sales with little ongoing effort and at a relatively low cost compared to traditional advertising or hiring salespeople. Don't smother a non technical audience with technobabble - stick to the benefits.

If it's a non technical audience, they're not immediately going to jump online and Google "SEO Manchester" - they're going to type in your URL directly and see your nice high converting landing page and hopefully fill in your lead form or pick up the phone. Your competitors will be spewing.

I think this is a great idea and one I plan to use. Don't forget newspapers,, especially local ones, are always looking for new content.
I think the main benefit of this is you will have businesses coming to you and you can ask a better price as you are pre qualified as an authority.
