Thoughts on a BHW SEO Competition?

If you use a made-up word you will cut out a large part of SEO. G likes to see links, html tags, articles etc that are on topic, and indeed many seo techniques make use of this fact to find keywords, appropriate pages for backlinks etc that are keyword-rich for the given niche.

In the real world, no-one would try to rank for a made-up word, they would try to rank for a word or phrase that has low competition. If you use a made-up word you are going to skew your results set - giving a potentially false indication of seo services and techniques that are effective.

I see where your coming from. The results may be skewed slightly as google won't really have any relevancy to put into play/ it might also even use different factors for ranking a word it's never seen before. You are right though, so in future competitions it would be a good idea to use a low/high competition word's to mix it up a bit and see how the rankings compare!

I'd love to get on board with this and help run it (if needed). Shoot me a PM webdesign and maybe we can throw up a domain with a registration form for contestants.

As for the made up word, I think aj113 is exactly right. Ranking for a nonexistent word completely nullifies half of common SEO knowledge and practices. I think a low-med competitive word should suffice

A further suggestion - I think a much more valuable prize than $100 would be a guaranteed sales thread here at BHW for the winner, so if the mods/admin would get on board with this it could be a great outcome for competitors, members and indeed the forum as a whole.

this would nullify the motivation for people who already have a salesthread...

But it is a far greater incentive for those who don't - so maybe the winner could have a choice.

I think it's an awesome idea, but make an internet " LIVE TV" broadcast out of it. Let
the contestants each throw in a $500 and the winner takes all. Announce the keyword
or phrase LIVE and give them 99 hrs, to buy a domain name, create their site, do their
SEO, link wheels, and whatever. Allow them to use whatever tools are in their arsenal.
It could become a reality show, making the winner bigger than these Gurus that sell us
sh--t. At the end of the time period who evers new website is ranked the highest takes the stakes! "Guru Battle Bots LIVE" I can see it

I hope you were joking.

If you want to do SEO In only 99 Hours what I would is just buy some domain, slap some unique article and then spam my list of ~500k Auto Approve URLS like there is no tomorrow and do some Trackback and profile spamming aswell as submitting 10-15 articles to each of the premium Networks I have access to :P
This will surely get the site deindex in a week or so, or atleast very deep in the sandbox :)

Or another approach might be to get 3 day access to all those High PR Homepage backlink networks :)

This is a good ideea(with small flaws that can be overcome)..... lets just hope it it materializes.

I don't have a sales thread or sell any service on BHW and can get in the top 10 on Google USA for all the keywords ive chosen so far. Doesn't mean im making enough cash to keep the wolves from the door.

Making adequate sales is the most difficult part in internet marketing for me, ranking seems quite simple, if you don't aim for ridiculously high competition keywords.

I reckon there are loads of BHW members who can rank high in the search engines, probably better than some of the service providers here on BHW, thanks mainly to the fact that they have invested wisely in Scrapebox, Xrumer, Bookmarking Daemon, Article Marketing Robot and any other tool that builds backlinks.

Why set a competition? If you think the services here on BHW are shit, don't use them.

The only services i would recommend are the ones who can guarantee links on EDU pages or forum profiles. These types of services have strengthened my websites no end.

this is a good idea in theory, but there would be no real way to accurately compare services apple to apple (as someone mentioned)

Great idea - I can find out exactly where all the service providers are getting their backlinks from and copy them!

I'm just going to give my personal opinion here, so please nobody get offensive.

I have looked at most services here and I have yet to see one that I would purchase.

I know this is a blackhat forum, but in my opinion again, the best service that I can think of is someone that offers a way to attract natural links, or even better, to have top quality UNSEEN content on your site that attracts links naturally.

Honestly, the blog comments, and profile links make me laugh a little.

I'm not even remotely offended, Tim, but you must have missed a lot of the good providers' offers on this site... there are a bunch of guys that offer a quality service/product at a great price.

Let's do this for fun. Everyone chips in $ $10. Once we have at-least 20 participants competition goes.

First 1 get's a $100.
2-3 $50 each.

But we cannot promote a nonsense word. SEO still takes time and time is money. Should be something flippable or monetizeable.

If you could manipulate Google to think your site/page deserves to be ranked competitively, then I guess everybody would be doing it, especially with this place being a public forum.

I will admit though there are ways to manipulate Google, but people are going to need to start digging into their pockets a bit more.

I find it very hard to believe that someone could rank a webpage competitively for one of these $25 services.

Am i wrong? Then show me proof that one of these services work. Feel free to PM me the proof BassTrackerBoats and I will take my words back if you prove me wrong.

I don't know of any 25.00 services on this site... maybe you could point one out to us that claims to get you ranked competitively on Google.

So the services only offer services for non competitive rankings?

To be honest I shouldn't have got involved in this as there?s nothing wrong with making money on these services. I guess people are only giving their customers what they want.

Again, point out the ones that guarantee you rankings and only charge 25.00 per your earlier statement.

Ahhh, that is the catch then. Nobody guarantees any rankings.

Anyway, I prefer not to take advantage of other people.
