How did Mark Zuckerberg initially promoted facebook?

After limiting the signups to only college students making it exclusive and cool amongst young people they grew largely in part due to Oauth by logging into people's email accounts(user opted into them doing it) and messaging all their contacts to invite them to facebook. It's been estimated almost 75% of facebook's userbase were invited and joined fb through this method.

Yeah but didn't they had something like 7 million signups before they implented Oauth? That's still mighty impressive if you ask me especially when Zuck only promoted it through the college email (allegedly).

The numbers are still hard to fathom. It wasn't like there weren't any social networking sites then to compete with and there were already a few that focused on the college experience. I know by limiting fb to .edu addresses might have its appeal but by growing at that pace then with hardly any funding back before the advents of youtube amd where its contents are not even crawled by googlebot just beggars belief. It was like every single online marketing strategy did not apply to the then thefacebook

Perhaps facemash helped boost facebook's reputation.

as far as i know the original idea came from a site called "friends re united" & facebook pretty well killed that off .

SPY Website is what it is. I can find anyone on Facebook and know there whole life history in 5 MIN

He had his roommate who was in prestige club spam facebook to all his prestige buddies in club. He did it and it went viral.

His roommate was scared at first because he didnt want them to think he was spamming them

His roommate ad special access to all member emails. Mark needed the password and code from him

first he fucked the students and that went into news, an when he launched facebook it went to newspapers again that the same guy with new website, what else you want - free advertising.. but he also used the stolen email list of the university..

Zuckerberg denied all the stories in the movie, didnt he? He said he only has one thing in common with the actor in social network, which is the same wardrobe, lol.

oh and also, are you aware of this Paul Ceglia? lol

people like to brag about their lives .. that s why FB is soo famous !!

how accurate is that movie? I've heard its somewhat fictitious.

You know what's interesting about Facebook, if members remember Facebook was just for college students only at first, meaning that most of the backlinks were more then likely .edu with enough edu backlinks u can pretty much dominate anything, I'm sure MZ knew this people thought it was just for college just because but I'm sure there was a SEO purpose behind it.
