BHW experts plz help..

by owning a site do you mean having the website hosted?

You need to own the domain name in order to have an email address at that domain. You can use GoDaddy's email services.

When buying a domain, it is typically hosted on the registrar's servers. Therefore you will have a parked domain of some sort, not a website. With the purchase of your domain, you can enable email forwarding or web based email if offered. Hope that helps.

As long as you own the domain, it doesn't matter if you have a site up or not -- just sign up for Google Apps and use Gmail. You don't need to have a website, you just need to be able to control the DNS setting (which you should be able to do with any registrar.) I use Google for email on most of the domains I own whether I have a site up on not.

I find the free level of Google Aps works fine for all of the email accounts that I have on various domains, but if you need a lot of mail storage (25GB) you can pay $50/year for the business level.

I prefer using Google over GoDaddy's email service or even hosting email on my own server. Google does a much better job of spam filtering.

To be specific:

1. Buy a domain.
2. Change the MX records including the numbers in priority here:

1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
5 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
10 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM
10 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM

Go here:

Register the domain and have fun.

OR - Buy a domain from Name.com and they do everything automatically.

If you guys read the post correctly you'd see he's not asking how to get a domain. He thinks it's possible to do it without owning the domain.
