Do Adwords Backlinks Help SEO?

I'm just starting out, I was wondering if people know if when you do your advertising if the backlinks get indexed or help your website. I would think so but not sure?

Ive had many sites show up on the first page of organic listings, in highly competative niches and prime keywords, without doing ANY seo of any kind, just pure PPC only. It wasnt instant though, they appeared over time and im not sure how long it took because i only discovered on accident since i was never interested in doing seo with those sites so i wasnt checking for it

That's surprising to know considering the fact that Google clearly states that Google Adword would not affect organic rankings in any way. Makes sense too since organic listings are based on relevancy (or the lever of optimization) whereas anyone can run adword campaign, even if they own a free blog.

Yes it absolutely has a positive effect on SEO. If you watch closely over time you'll see those PPC links appear in Yahoo domain explorer. They definitely hold some weight, just not sure how much

What do you mean by PPC links? You mean the adsense ad links?

Thats not possible - Google does not crawl javascript links.

As for what GTS said maybe you rose because of other factors such as domain age etc.

That is possible, that it rose due to other factors like age. It was a campaign that ran a long time (years).

It was also a long time ago, so many things may have changed since then as well.

That's not actually true any more, G will not only crawl js links in some situations (especially if the url is in plain, unobfuscated form in the js), they will actually execute complicated javascripts.

I know this because they busted me for using jquery to pop up an iframe with an ad page with a redirect in it. The way that they spidered the site made it very clear they were executing the javascript.

The js was heavily obfuscated - chopped up into small variables and shuffled with no urls visible. To do the redirect, the js had to be reassembled with the vars in the right order and evaled - ie. it had to be actually executed by a javascript interpreter. Gbot followed the redirect.
