I was wondering if they were worth the extra money as an EMD. I have never had luck trying to rank .info domains but has anyone tried and successfully ranked a ".co" domain yet?

I haven't tried but it has to be better than a .info . I hear the price outweighs the benefit compared to a .com, .org or .net but who knows. It seem there's still a lot of good domain names out there if that tells us anything.

I was wondering the same thing myself... I picked up a couple .co domains to hold on to them, haven't tried ranking them.

They're being touted as the next .com, so I'm assuming they should rank as well.

I remember seeing one thread during the dotCO rush. A member got a very high-quality 3-letter-domain in "search engine marketing", (now easy to guess, @@@.co), at a very very high price (like $x,xxx) after bidding. I remembered that thread just as I was reading this, so I opened that site and it hasn't even being worked upon. WOW! All that money must have gone down the drain... or may be, the member has already sold it to someone and made profit...

I then checked some dotCo sites in G with site:.co and saw some, only few sites having PR3 and some useful content. I know PR isn't that valuable a parameter to judge success of a site, but none looked like a professional "company" site (dotCo = Columbia country code, but were made to look like "co = Company" extension, i.e. very professional) as it was made to appear then.

It all seemed to be Too Good To Be True type opportunity while all the good ".com" domains seemed to have been taken up, but the dotCO rush was real amazing!

Anyway, some people have really put a lot of money in dotCO domains then...

I've bought a few .co's.
I have currently only bothered to work 2 of them, and one is currently #2 for my chosen keyword for that niche and the other has varying success of places like #2,3 and 4 for a few different keywords. Mediocre competition.

The last domain is a MEGA competitive domain which is keyword.co and I have not even bothered to try for it yet.
Might do in the future but also might just sit on it until someone wants it bad enough to contact me for it.

The .Co tld is now equal in status to .Com. This has been verified by Google.
The only problem is that Joe Bloggs doesn't know this, and for the time being will continue to think that it's a typo, and that you mean .Com
This will be bad for offline marketing where you have to rely on people remembering the address, or even just typing the address they will add the extra M in there sending them to your competition.

It may still be too early in the game to tell how well .co will rank. Thats my opinion. As for myself, I haven't had much luck, but I haven't put much work into them either.

I haven't seen it till now coz it is new..............But i think Good SEO can make it

By who? There will never be a "next .com" because you would have to re-teach billions of people everything they know about the internet. At least 50% of the people using the internet are not aware of any extension outside of .com.

.Coms get type in traffic. .Coms are easily passed virally because they are easier to remember.

Having said that, axj85 and jason2009 said it good. With great SEO, you can rank basically anything , for anything you want.

Not sure about these. A customer on the phone earlier TODAY automatically wrote down @@@.co.uk instead of just leaving it as @@@.co Over here in the UK it's going to be a common mistake as most folk will see it as an incomplete domain. Not sure its worth the hassle really, only bought it so I could,,, well compete against myself in a local directory listing. I know it sounds odd. Long story about some git trying to nick my customers by trying to call himself the same business name but with a CO tagged on... so I just went ahead and bought the .co domain from under him, same day it became available. Twatted him lovely, the theiving dung-eating peasant. Why couldn't he just make up his own business name!

I have a .co ranking for one of my clients. It's a low/medium competition local keyword. He's ranked 3.

The keyword is "word1 word2"

His site is "word1.co"

Godaddy did a large plug for the .CO domains during the superbowl with the disgustingly plastic Joan Rivers.

Bob Parsons, Chief Executive said: "We believe it deserves some special promotion," said Bob Parsons, chief executive and founder of Go Daddy Group Inc. "People identify with.com, and .co is just one step less. It's like the other .com."

Although Godaddy did not say verbatum ".CO is the next .COM" they made a strong indication that it's the next extension.

Sure, who's Godaddy to say?

But still, I think its a sign of things to come.
