How do you find the keywords that you want to test? Do you just make a random bainstorm and then look at the competition?

yeah, use amazon, google trends, tv, magzine, you name it to get ideas for niches, then just research the keywords in those niches.

How accurate would you say traffic travis suggestion is? In a couple of test keywords, I've found keywords with all the parameters you suggest, but then traffic travis rates them as medium to very difficult. In fact even in your example it was the same problem.

I think putting the search term in quotes in traffic travis as well proves to be a bit more accurate.

When I try to analyze SEO competition the program gets all done but the amazon one and then just hangs forever, never giving me an ultimate rating on the keyword. Is there any way to fix this or to get the program to ignore amazon rankings?

Dont be too worried about amazon, its quite easy to rank as most amazon pages only have a few links pointing directly to the page that is ranking.

Just take action and find out how easy/hard it easy to rank against amazon, experience is the best way to learn.

I use it for pretty much every keyword, I suggest you do to and try to rank for various keywords at different parts of the scale so you can see how hard/easy it is to rank for keywords, there is nothing like self experience.

PR applies always. But if you see some sites that are "famous" and ranking then its a good sign (imho) because normally those sites have very few direct links to the ranking page and if they can rank with so few links that means u stand a good chance of ranking up there with them if you know what your doing.

good number is around 5K...

But I do also go for keywords that have 200K (just depends on how much you want to rank for a keyword)... normally 5K - 10K is good tho.


Just take lots of action that is the best advice I can give you. You will get a MUCH BETTER FEEL/IDEA of what a good keyword is by trying it out ur self.

Keyword research is the foreplay of SEO, if you do it right, the more p*ssy you get.

Excellent guide, the images will be of great help to newbies and i learnt a few new things myself. I use SEO Quake with this method and i have found a few keywords that i made sites with which are making a little money so my advice is stop reading and take action! You learn by your mistakes.

Does anybody else find it odd that all the captions are positive, saying that everything is good, then Traffic Travis reports that its a pretty tough niche?

Either TT is wrong, or your method is wrong..
