Spamming? Is it that Risky?

I understand spamming is illegal in the US, but is it really enforced? I just got to thinking since I used to work for a webhost. When we would get a spammer on our servers we would tell him politely not to do it again and terminate the account if need be. That was the end of it.

Now if you're sending hundreds of millions of emails daily (I.E. on Rosko) I see where this may be a problem, but is it really a risk for the "little guy" just sending a few K at a time. I think the govt has better things to do than track down the small time spammer through foreign servers\proxies.....

spamming is very easy, I do very Blackhat things. And i use proxies. I was even in the myspace spam back in the day..... Do it

If you in the end have your bank account, or somewhere is your IP / name, it can get end pretty bad if you ask me, unless you life somewhere in an small island.

You need to move completely offshore if you want to mass spam the right way, which means always offshore IP + VPN, better even from the wireless of your neighbor. Then you need a bulletproof hosting, which isn't cheap. Then you also need to know where to get prepaid debit cards for the payment, which aren't easy to get, either. For this you have to dig in the cc-scene a little bit, and try&test or just buy one for 500$<

There's a guy out there who became a millionaire by sueing e-mail spammers [DanHatesSpam], it doesn't have to be a problem until you hit the wrong box. There's also f*ckers out there who love to report you to your affiliate network [I always wonder whether these are 'regular' people or other IMs] But when the FBI and such come into play, its usually all about b0tnets and them taking CC data and also sending several thousands k's of e-mails per day per computer. There was a huge b0tnet busted a few months ago, spam went down 75% or something like that in three days. Then it all came back up, they had invented something new.

Hate people that hate on e-mail spam thinking their computer is their safe little haven.. where else do you get to press the 'delete' button within 5 seconds when you're spammed? I don't have it on my TV or all those billboards I see everyday. I'd say I get 'spammed' 50 minutes of my day and less than 0.1% of it comes from e-mail spam.. People need to grow a brain already.

Spamming on facebook like getting 10 accounts getting 5k-10k in friends to drive traffic to a website wont get you in trouble with the law. The worst is you will get banned by facebook.

Flying under the radar is the key. On a massive level yes your going to be looking at lawsuit and legal troubles. Spamming to make some money to generate capital to start off with isnt anything crazy.

Thats why i stoped on facebook. I only made a few hundred dollars in cpa it was a failure. You have to make enough money for them to come after you. Basic rule of thumb the ammount of money you have to make has to reach higher then the lawyer fee's.

Spamming is really not the thing you wanna do.
Forum Spammers Are a lot.
They are all seems to be unknowledgeable about the thing they do.

I assume we're talking about e-mail spam. A few thousand mails here and there just isn't going to make you any decent money. If you do sufficient volume, you might get your affiliate accounts terminated. Then again, I've been caught by programs and told to keep up the good work and given a higher pay rate.

Now I never got caught by the law, but people I knew did and it was a little too close to home for comfort. I also had friends at companies like Yahoo and AOL telling me the techs were developing measures to specifically counter my spam, which is also very creepy.

If you have a lot of money to invest, going offshore and setting up a spam operation can be lucrative but if you're going to do it casually, I say just don't.

It's not hard to become CAN-SPAM compliant. Why not just do it?

The law is VERY lenient in what it considers spam.

Yeah the problem with CAN-SPAM is that to an outsider it seems like a set of rules that gives you a license to spam, and in a way it does. At the same time, complying with CAN-SPAM will ruin your chances of actually inboxing so there's no point to it.

Daily, I spam a lot of forum and use paul's method to create backlinks. It's all of method to create backlink i know.

I suppose small spamming wouldn't be too risky, however it could get ugly.

The FTC sues people all the time for spamming. You better know what you're doing and have some deep pockets (for fines/attorney's fees) if you are going to go down that road.

Spamming could be risky if you are based in the US and all the resources you would be employing are also based there. In most other countries, people would laugh at you if you wanted to sue anybody for spamming you. You would be told, "No problem. If you did not like the email sent to you, you should have deleted it. It is as simple as that".

Another good way of spamming that I really like is sending offer letters to people instead of sending emails. People respond well to unsolicited offer letters than unsolicited emails. Just get some addresses and post the letters to those people. You would be surprised with the positive response. You would get feedback requesting for more information about your offers and high sales.
