BAN HAMMER:Newbies Old Post Bumping

I've noticed it as well.
I think the ban hammer is a bit strong though maybe a -15 postcount in the
other direction will put a damper on their eagerness.

IMO banhammer would be better becouse If the only reason they do that is to PM maybe they try to sell their scam services or such trough PM or spam their links or shit like that .

:banned: <------ this

Be sure to hit the report button ;) I have caught quite a few recently and banned them but that's because they race to 15 so they can solicit via pm. Be sure to report any dodgy pm's from new members/people trying to sell outside the services/for sale section.

No, you cannot pm if your post count is less than 15. They should reset the post count to zero. That would help. If you ban them, they will just open another account. Post count reset will prevent that because they will be back to square 1.

yes. I've seen this yesterday as well. Some guy must have answered about 10 posts with "thank you" in all of them.

I'm sure half of them are ex members (scammers) who have been banned recently.
But I expect a few just want to get to the download section.
The worse ones will be the ex members as they know the BHW system.
I know myself what times there isn't a mod about for love nor money.

I've also seen them hanging around in the email marketing section, which is worrying as I think I know why.

I've seen this happening since I signed up, which wasn't too long ago. Anyway, the past month I've been seeing old threads (2yrs+) bumped to heck. Sure some of the threads are still a little constructive but the posters themselves are not and usually leave something like "k thnx" "pls more" etc.

Banhammer might be a bit harsh but a negative post count would be fair. Oh and perhaps an automated system or warning system could be implented if it hasn't been already? Perhaps when posts are made too frequently or on old threads the account will be locked from doing anything and then could be inspected later on?

Educating them is better than banning them.

This trend of newbies bumping old threads to get to the 15 post mark is getting to be a pain in the ass.

They're not even trying to create useful questions or contributions to the forum, so a BAN HAMMER is needed to stamp this shit out.

I'm bumping this thread.
It's becoming a nuisance now I just caught another one.
Anyone see this flag them. Lets get rid of this bullshit!

I'm going to set a note in my calender to bump this thread in 1 year. :-D

You'll have to register a new account or it will defeat the object!! :D

we should just lock up the threads if they have had no posting for over 6 months....
or a big RED warning pop up right before you post that you might get banned for resurrecting old threads... or whatever...

I really don't see why spammers would have to target OLD posting... they could just as well target new posting... or make some up themselves....

if anything I would think they would stay away from old postings... so as to not bring people attention to it.....

so I am not totally convinced it just spammers...

I just think "sometimes" new people do a search
and the search turns up old sh!t and people read it....
and get really into it(their greed gets the best of them... they imagine counting their new millions...not noticing its a thread old as dirt)....
then they post... without checking the date....

How about - new accounts cannot post until they have a 15-post count. That'll sort 'em out. (Seriously though - maybe a 1-week wait before being able to post with new accounts would also damp down the 1-post wonders buying or selling services).

Thank god I'm not the only one bashing about stupid noobs bumping months and even years old threads out of the blue.

Maybe its time for invitation only to keep things interesting here...

hmm.. maybe auto-lock threads that are more than a year old?

its not like anyone's gonna genuinely want to post in a thread if no one's posted in it for over a year, right?

Code:

Yes, donors , that's exactly what we do -:) and now I have made another useful 37th post
