BAN HAMMER:Newbies Old Post Bumping

That would be ideal but it would ruin the honey pot and the advertising ability of the forum so it will never happen. :(

Maybe its time for invitation only to keep things interesting here...

Another alternative is to let us choose who we receive PMs from, ie. a setting in which I can decide how many post counts someone must have in order to contact me. 50-100-150 etc

This might help discourage those who are simply registering to abuse or scam others via PM.

To be honest I dont get why to have such an limit at all.
If you have none, there will be spamming.
If you have a limit, there will be spamming.

I like the idea of hitman247!
But I am new to this forum and English is only my second language, so it will be very hard to achieve 100 posts. But I would love to be part of this community!

Be sure to hit the report button ;) I have caught quite a few recently and banned them but that's because they race to 15 so they can solicit via pm. Be sure to report any dodgy pm's from new members/people trying to sell outside the services/for sale section.

-Geet

yeah, the last time I reported necro-posting, I got a reply to use the report button for important stuff only.

FUUUUUU......

Lol, yup, i was chatting with dizzspaceteam and he was bitching about someone who had posted something similar to a thread i started then i pointed out hey uh....that was a year ago. lol. it happens, sometimes you get caught up in the title and forget to look at the date. not that that relates to the content of the post.

OH YEA we will talk about this....lol jk jk...
Noobs do this to our wholesale list a lot too.... Thank you mate, thank you man.. ETC ETC.. Or even GREAT LIST DUDE!

I think if the post doesn't have more than 10 words, it shouldn't count... Then at least it would take them a minute to concoct an appropriate bs sentence....

but seriously though THANKS!!!!

*waits a year*

Yeah, I agree with this post!

xD

I am bumping this thread to increase my thread count. Not!

Don't let your ego get in your way. A ban is not needed. Old information is still relevant and there are many others that have not seen it before. Just because you have, doesn't mean others have.

Almost every day I get on here and read an updated thread that first started back in 2009 or 2010. If you do not like it, skip it.

Don't let people get the best of you so easily.

Why not auto close a thread when its untouched for x months.

Less work for our mods!

Being new here, I have found some threads from 2008 that have been helpful, but MOST are outdated methods. But it kinda sucks not being able to PM, as I've come across situations were the only method of contact is PM. I understand that I gotta pay my dues though....

I think a thread which is some years old should be closed .so that no one can bump them up.Or just fine them with little $ .who bump those threads that would be even better instead of ban .since they are new may be by mistake they have bumped.so if we impose a fine then they will definitely be careful next time before they bump.

In most of the other forums I'm on, there is a 15 post minimum before PM's, but it is 15 USEFULL posts, if its not a relevant or informing post, it doesnt count. Surely that would be the way to go here?
Also, regarding closing threads after a certain length of innactivity, why not close them, then archive them in subcategories within said category e.g. 'Black Hat topics from 2010' or whatever then people can go off and do their search but they will be able to read but not comment. If they have a worthwhile and usefull comment then i'm sure people wouldnt mind them bringing it up in a new thread?

also, once somebody bumps an old topic, everybody else tends to not notice its a bumped topic and more comments start coming in. I for one am guilty of just checking the date of the last post rather than the first post, I shall be a bit more wary of this in future!

I think this could be one of the solutions ...

When a thread that hasn't seen a new post for example, in the past 45 days, and someone tries to post then it can bring up a pop-up window with a message asking the new poster something like, "the last post on this thread was xx days ago, and so does the member still want to post something very relevant or useful to it?"

(The "45 days" is just an ex ample, can be different for every thread based on the importance of the thread (which can be an automatic-type thread importance decider program), of how important the thread is, what section it belong to, etc. Today's programming world can easily create such an add-on to help create a good ranking system for good, bad, and all in-between type threads.)

May be this type of a pop-up would serve as a useful warning that can halt the member in his tracks. This can also wake up the member in case he is unknowingly bumping a hibernating thread. This pop-up would help him get back in (current) time and save him from possible lots of flames later, or even save him from inviting a neg rep from a member for bringing up an old thread... *ouch* ;)

I saw this a couple of days ago. Someone brought an old post back to life that was over 2 year old, I like an idiot PM someone who had asked a question like 2 years ago. Of course I didn't check the date either so more fool me. I think a ban is a bit harsh but -ve post count is definately a good idea.

If the situation is new members rushing posts so that they can PM, set a limit on the amount of posts per day to 2 or 3. That will help offset some of the running and gunning.

If the problem is that you are tired of being tricked and do not see that it is old and cannot effectively ignore the posts, then that is a different issue that I cannot help you with.

As far as locking a thread, there are some that can be locked but most still love on. Those that are old methods will die on their own or within 24-hours.

I wish the ban hammer was throw at idiots posting on threads from 2008.

I wish people would go to all of the old threads, and check links, reporting when they are broken, reupping the material if they can find it, and add how they think a new twist could bring the old info up to date. I do not know about you, but I haven't thought of PLRwarehouse etc... for years, but i drug out my old id and password and threw up 100 PLR sites in a few days and used them as White hat sites for CPA redirects. Yeah for PLR, a 10 year old IM method... that still is useful.

As for the short, no info posts, I agree, Those who are no longer newbs, but have little regard for quality, should know better, but are truthfully the problem here. Quit puling IPs, getting new BHW accounts to connect to forum posting software and instant PMs to reach us here at BHW! As for the real newbs, they most likely haven't learned to time for 15 second search lapses and under the wire PM blasts with multiple accounts, which is what I am seeing. The manual "quick 15 and PM or download" guys are easily gone around, using search and such.

Maybe if you correlated PM access with rep instead of post count, this would be alleviated. No one wants to lose a good rep account, but post count can just be automated or sheety posts after all.
