[*]It is relatively easy to detect incorrect grammar. Most content is not grammatically correct since not even native English writers are 100% grammatically correct on the web. However, when you detect a very large percentage of grammar mistakes in all the text on a site, it's a high statistical chance there's something fishy with it.
Thanks for your very educative post. The issues raised by you could really go a long way in helping people online in how to create content for websites. Without good knowledge like this, it is possible to just be wasting time creating content that would not help in search engine ranking. Thanks
Concerning the issue of grammar mistakes, I think the search engines cannot perfectly detect and penalize sites having grammatically incorrect content. If the search engines were good at doing that, then the Google translation tool should give 100% correct grammatical structure when translating languages. I have sites with thousands of pages built with translated content. They all have grammar mistakes but they can still be understood by an average reader. On each of those sites, I get an average of 1,200 unique visitors through Google per day with an average page view of 1.6
Human languages are very complex and I think human technology has not been able to detect when a sentence structure is not well formed.
In terms of languages, what I feel the search engines can do is detecting a content that is just full of words without any linking words (preposition) to give an idea of a meaningful sentence. For instance, if a IM site has an article like this:
"adsense ebay internet amazon marketing podcast money computer software clickbank"
The sentence above has no meaning and the search engines can easily classify that as keyword stuffing.
Now compare that with a sentence like this:
"I like made adsense when they you go computer with clickbank through podcast and check amazon with internet marketing"
The second sentence has grammatical mistakes. The search engines will not penalize the websites having this content because they cannot really fish out grammatical mistakes. This is my own opinion based on my experience with various websites that I have.
HI Madoctopus.. Thanks for the lovely post. Regarding the blak hat suggestion you made, you do you identify new posts on new pages? I'm new to SEO, so some help would be great.
I have no words for this post. This is an eye-opener. Widespread of such kind of misinformation is cluttering the web with unique but more harmful content. Google wants to show up diversity in results.
So, how about replacing off one url from SERPs with another on same domain? Like if a squidoo lens is ranking on #1 or say page 1, then what can be our approach to replace that lens with ours? Now, since Go0gle doesn't likes duplicate content on same domain, so we're going to have unique content with good on-page optimization. And for backlinks, we will give it some boost with other web 2.0 properties but this time with duplicate content (not one from our lens which we want to rank, from some other site), sb blast and edu/gov backlinks too on both level.
You guys said about Domain Authority, its fine. But does Go0gle gives any link authority too, like suppose a lens is ranking #1 for last 6 months and a new lens targeting the same keyword with good onpage and all other factors pops up, will google give more love to that 6 month old lens or both of them will be treated equal for being on same domain? And of course replace that lens with ours in SERPs for being better?
