where do the traffic come from? google trends a myth?

on a site that i have no access to google analytics (GA)?

I got lucky using a hot keyword and get 600 visitors a day to a page where I cannot install GA. I tried another keyword thats twice as hot, but got 3 visitors a day! The question is how I can reproduce the results of the high traffic?

I looked in google keyword tools (GKT) and find related keywords and try to find the google ranking of the visited page. I got nothing other than a few that rank close to 200, which cannot explain the traffic source.

I have read a few posts on BHW talking about how to cash in on google trends (GT). However i failed to make it work for me and i cannot understand how it could have worked for them.

Google trends are so short lived that by the time one sees the keywords and posts an article, it's already "over the hill." the article/page has to be indexed by Google first. getting indexed is like shooting darts in the dark. My experience is that even on a PR7 site, it can take up to 1 day! (the fastest indexing in my experience is 15 minutes or so.) the trend keyword turns into trash after a few hours! Maybe I am missing some key points of those GT posts? Anybody that has had success with GT can give a pointer?

The 2 questions are kind of related. thats why i put them in the same thread. So my questions are:
1, what am i missing in using GT?
2, how do i find traffic source without GA?

i played with gtrend (autoblog) while ago until Google sandboxed me
i think the key is to look for relatively low competition keyword :
- choose long keyword over 'short' ones
- choose 'new' keyword , if you look closely at gtrends feed source

also take a look at related searches of choosen keyword at gtrend details page.

playing gtrends is promising. my autoblog has almost 50000 BL , because if you're on top .. thousands of websites will link to you.. and thats what i call an automatic backlink

many of the GT keywords seem to be (not that well known) names and hence low competition. I tried the jewish holiday a couple weeks ago. the holiday was certainly not high competition. the problem was the article did not get indexed until 24 hours later. Was that (getting indexed quickly) never your problem?

check your Google Webmaster crawl rate
FYI, my rate is 370 crawl/day (average)

to get indexed faster, you need to add more contents daily to your site

this brings up another question of mine:
I suppose you have all your websites in your google account? now if they sandbox one of your sites, you don't sandbox all your sites or even suspend your google webmaster account?

and they does not affect your adsense account?

Any sort of trend marketing is all about timing. The one's that get in early make the most.

If you want to target trends, you need to make sure you are constantly paying attention to what's going on so that you can identify something early on and get in early.

I did try that. I thought early morning is a good time to get on the "train" before it takes off.

Well, the different time zones plays a part, but more importantly pay attention to the actual pages and graphs for each keyword that GT identifies as a hot search.

Generally speaking, anything that is labeled "Spicy" or higher and has peaked less than 6 hours ago will typically get you some good traffic.

As far as rankings go, if you are not getting ranked you are probably making one of (or combination of) the following mistakes:

1. Not checking your KW competition thoroughly.
2. Not using the proper sites - An article most likely won't get ranked quick enough. Video is good, but the best is always a paid Press Release.
3. You are not doing enough - Trends marketing should be churn and burn. Fuck worrying about Google and all their rules. Hit it faster and harder than anyone and you will reap the benefits.

Like I said, articles aren't the best for trends because they don't get indexed quick enough most of the time. Press releases are great because you can get indexed almost instantly most of the time.

Video is also really good.

Blasting out a bunch of content is not spamming as long as you are not putting complete shit out there.

That's the type of stuff you hear at the Warrior Forum which is why so many of their members make absolutely nothing.

If using software for mass creation makes you feel bad, then you might want to avoid BH marketing together because that's not even a very BH strategy.

Judging from your comments, I would recommend you try something like Press Releases if you want to go after trends.

How could you only get 15 visits from getting into Google News? That should tell you that you need to recheck your strategy and execution. I have never heard of anyone getting that little traffic from Google News. The lowest amount of traffic I have seen is in the few thousands, and this was on a topic that wasn't even very popular up at the time.

Is sounds like you are targeting the wrong topics and/or KWs, or you are using a press release service that's no good. What service do you use?

It depends a lot on how the press release was written. A lot of people make the mistake of making their PRs too much like a generic ad or a review of a particular company and there are quite a few PR services that will turn down PRs like that.

If you've had a lot of PRs turned down what I'd do is focus on something that the company is offering that is different and hype it up as if it were something recently launched. If you can't do that then scan Google News and look for something that is of interest at that particular moment and tie it in with the company you are trying to promote.

If you want to use GT you need to start with a large keyword list. one or two keywords will get you nowhere fast. You want to be bringing in at least a few thousand in trendsetter keywords. Like bobbylove said. Its essentially a numbers game. like you said you got "lucky" so how are you going to reproduce luck? you cant. Instead start keylist building using GT and youll see your chances of scoring a good keyword out of 2 or 3 thousand keywords is a LOT better than out of 2 or 3 keywords.

second, You need to keep adding content to your site. Dont think just making a page with some keywords and doing nothing else will get you a lot of consistant traffic.

Thirdy, if you want to speed up the process its time to enter social marketing. You will literally get instant traffic from sites like facebook, twitter, and youtube. This traffic in turn will index your site a whole lot quicker in increase your chances of catching the wave of a hot keyword in search engines.

I'm guessing one of the threads you saw about GT was mine where I outline a method to use it. Bottom line above anything else: YOU WANT A BIG KEYWORD LIST.
