I've not seen this talked about here before... I've been using this simple method with incredible accuracy for the past 9 months to see EXACTLY where my geo-targeted sites are headed in the SERPS.
This method will tell you weeks (at least) in advance whether your site is moving up or down in the rankings and will tell you where your competitors are going as well.
Here It Is:
1. This works with only (as far as I can tell) geo-targeted keywords (i.e. Roswell Pest Control)... AND only for city names that do not match a city name in the U.K.
2. Here is an example of this method in action. Go to Google (USA) and search for "Roswell Pest Control". You'll see that our target site (for this example) is on the second page (roswellpestcontrol911.com).
3. Now go to Google UK and search the same term. You'll see that our target site is on the FIRST page! Around number 6 in the SERPS!
I've discovered that this is where the site should REALLY be ranking once all of the Google filters and new domain penalties, etc. peel off! It's like the Google UK site gives the "true", "unfiltered" results!
I've tested this DOZENS of times and without fail... in several weeks the site always moves to the Google UK location. You can monitor your progress in advance with this knowledge, fix problems before they show up in Google USA SERPS and monitor where your competitors are going as well.
It gives you the ability to "see the future" so to speak.
It also gives you the ability to show this to your client so that they can see where they are headed instead of having to always explain the reasons why they are NOT moving... now they can see for themselves.
I'm not sure of the reasons behind the algo of why this works... but believe me, it works perfectly!
It's like the USA's filters are not applied on the UK search site (which does make sense)... so they return the "pure" results.
Anyway, wanted to pass this on... maybe others can expand this method and post results as well.
