The first of the year I started a web design business and making some money not much but a little.. before I go big with my advertising I would like to know how to properly run the business? I do outsource the work to a great team that I have and they work perfectly.

Well my question is? How to properly run a web design business from when the customer calls you? How and when do you get the deposit? I always take as much info as I can and make them a template.. they usually love the template but should I charge them before I even make a template for them?

like when to take deposit?.. ect...

I want all automated I have a lady that is going to take the phone calls for me because she has such as seductive voice you will never want to hang up on her lol.

any ideas would be great and very much appreciated!

I always get a deposit before i start anything, because i've been burned a few times. time is money, and any of the business owners that you work with should know this and respect your time and service. i get at least 25% up front of what i think the price range will be.
try not to leave the initial meeting with the customer until you know EXACTLY what they're looking for. too many wishywashy people out there. a lot of them need direction. when quoting a price, i tell them a ballpark first, then i say that i will call them back with a more accurate price after i wrap my head around what they're needing.
hope that helps.

hey thanks and i hope to be makinbuckz soon! lol

Look for "The Web Design Business Kit 2.0" Its an ebook and comes with all the contracts, forms, advertising, steps to take, etc. It's everything that I used to launch my company, and I still refer to it every now and then.

I don't have it on my computer now, but look around the torrent sites. Its a quick download, and will boost your business several times over.

It really depends on how you run your business and what market that you are going after.

For us we have several different models set up.

For example if they are a small business we set them up with 50% upfront and the rest when we get the site to them.
If they are a large company then I set then up on net 30 terms.
If they are an affiliate or just starting out then I charge them upfront.
For seo we build monthly

This is a great share! I was expecting a short little ebook. This is a "website design business for dummy" type of book. Lots of great information (over 300 pages) and forms. Just did a short intro read of everything, can't wait to dive deeper into the content.

It depends, usually it's better to charge them 60% before you start work and after the work is done take your balance.

Yes I also agree charge 60% upfront and the rest on delivery , make sure you always over estimate the completion time also , things always take longer then originally quoted

Thankyou for the ebook download, very informative and with some good advice. Having a good portfolio helps get new clients, but it is hard in the current climate.

I've noticed that it is much easier to get web design jobs locally than nationally. Contacting small businesses in the area is usually a good idea.

Wow. Looks like I missed a great resource. Anyone who can put it back up?
