How do you guys find niches??

I just want to know how do you guys find niches. And how do you determine if it is a good one or not. Any help would be nice for a noob like me.

I like to think about niches from the perspective of "what makes people lose sleep?" because you can get these people to pay a LOT of money to solve their problems, whereas niches where people are "comfortable," the best you can hope for is a couple bucks off amazon affiliate network/EPN/adsense. f* that, go for the big money.

Just a few examples of what I'm talking about

• My teen got kicked out of school for violence
• my vagina smells terrible
• i have acne that looks like freddy kruger has his way with my face
• i have anxiety attacks
• i've been stuck in the same job for 20 years
• im gay and don't know how to tell my spouse
• i have scars that make me extremely self concious, to the point that I can't go to the beach
• i act cool, but deep inside im freaking out that my life is going nowhere
• [obvious] I'm fat.
• [obvious] I'm poor and wish i could get rich quick
• [obvious] I'm working hard, but i'm not going to get paid in time to pay rent

These are just a few things that people REALLY worry about.
Instead of just going to google adwords tool and typing in some bs like, "purple ipod case," and trying to make a few cents from adsense/amazon affiliate, think about what people are truly PLAGUED by, and sell it to them for whatever price they're willing to pay.

For products, I use Amazon.

1. select any best selling products
2. scrape using the root keyword ( I use SB)
3. Pick the long tail keywords with less competition and high search volume

Seriously, I just got back and discovered a product that's $200 that I never thought of that I can build a site around.

Finding a niche boils down two things: either chasing after the money or chasing after what you know about/interested in. If you are about the case you can do a google search on the most highest paying keywords. Also use Google traffic estimator/keyword tool to find highly searched terms. If you are looking to focus on the latest buzz then try Google Trends. I know of one guy who use Trends to register a domain that made him $100 by simply parking it.

Then again, if you decide to write about a topic of interest you will be more motivated and not just one of the 101 projects that you start but never finish.

Look at amazon-best sellers, ebay pulse, google trends, magazines.com

I've seen a lot of people go to clickbank, amazon, or ebay and look at whats selling. This does work, but it may not be the most effective method.

What I do is open up ebay or amazon, and the google keyword tool. I also have market samurai open at the same time.

I pick a random category, such as bikes. I type it in the google keyword tool, and look at the matches that are either brands or a specific type, and check out the competition.

For example "tandem bike". I haven't checked this, but I can tell you it does have less searches than bike, and it is searched by people who are looking to either find out more about a tandem bike or actually purchase one.

There are so many niches. Pretty much any main keyword works. Rings, Speakers, Hard Drives, Back packs, etc. Just look for a subcategory of that keyword with low competition.

Then I type it in Market Samurai and see what the top 10 search results look like. You want a less competitive market, as in the sites have an average below 3 PR, a reasonable number of backlinks, and low onsite SEO. If the niche appears to be too competitive, I will move onto the next one.

PS, not all niches are taken. I just found one 2 days ago that gets 15k searches per month, is a very easy to enter market, and I had a supply of the product readily available.

My site was indexed today, and I'm expecting to be ranking in the top 10 over the next month or two. Good luck
