Got an email offer for renting subdomain edu accounts and I'm not buying it but it got me thinking of the value of .edu.

I'm a student at a university and a really good friend of mine is a professor there and asked me a while back to create his department pages for the art department. In fact I worked there as student employee but not anymore.

Daaamn! that could have been a good opportunity. I can still do it.

If an edu is say 5X the value of a .com of the same pr value, I can imagine it wouldn't take many edu links to give exponential value.

There was a site in the Bronson video which was rent an edu dot com or something and it looked slick but....97 a mo.

Ok: My point in starting this thread is to discuss strategies for getting edu links, their value etc.

do it! been trying to figure out how to get a .edu domain, lol.
or edu blog

The story was this guy from the UK got some edu subdomains from the Peruvian government: college.edu.pe type subdomains and now had full access to rent em out.

Looks legit but they are charging big $.

SE's seems to love and respect .edu. guess I need to go back and tell the professor I will "finish his department pages" and see if I can find a tunnel to create my own subdomain.

if you take a good search around you can find edu that you can just take over,i have 3 such edu sites so far without much trouble, one of them is a an edu blog platform where i can open up new accounts & post reviews and links ,i wander if i could charge bloggers to use it,lol.if i was smart i would probably already be earning off it

In less then a week a new service is going to provide yourdomain.edu.xx, you heard it right, its not yourkeyword.universityhere.edu.xx but its straight subdomain from .edu

The price will be 2-3 times cheaper and you will register them online just like you register other TLD domain names

If you would like to get notified when this service becomes available do let me know via PM!

I've personally tested this technique to get backlinks and I've seen good results, though having .edu.xx doesn't mean you will automatically rank TOP 3, you have to get backlinks as well :)

If anyone is interested in getting this .edu.xx rental cheaper than the crappy $97 offer then hit me up via PM!

Similar setup to rentanedu except a lot cheaper!

edit: not selling this without a BST before!

anyone know what kind of seo this shit brings?

Like if a person were to have backlinks on 100 .edu sites, would that be enough to rank for #1 on niches like weight loss and make money?

This exactly what the rent a edu site says. Watch the video as he takes Russel Brunson/Bronson whatever ..... from 0 keyword ranking for competitive KW's to the top in days.

According to the vid, edu backlinks are that powerful.

Not saying I know anything about it, I just watched the video and it got my interest piqued since I'm building a large amount of lower PR's at the moment and want to toss in some more powerful links.

Well actually the power of these is they have more leverage than a normal link exchange!

BUT! You can use them in two ways....

1st... link to your site from a .edu site and get the all important authority link! Do some seo to your sub-domain to bring up the PR and you have one very very strong backlink.

2nd... contact competitors sites in your niche and say you will give them a .edu backlink with their anchor text in return for a link to your site (3 way link exchange) and then all their seo efforts go to your site while you give them a .edu backlink!

Both willl increase your sites rankings :)

dont forget the ip factor.
if you have 100 of them coming from the same ip
they arent going to be worth 100
general rule is 1 per 1 ip i believe

how the heck do you get an edu? godaddy dont sell them, lol

Yep but only stupid people would put a link to their site on the same page hundreds of times! Link spam footprint as big as the wall of china!

Magic!

I believe you need your own University. They are not for sale obviously just like .gov.

Maybe start a cult or something......

Hi Ozzy, I'm really interested. I can't send PM's. Can you notify me by mail or something similar?

Thanks

so if i could sell some one a link so they could build there own quality blogs on a .edu , how much would i get for this ?

@mazar
something.real_university.edu.xx is a lot better than something.edu.xx (which is practically nothing). I know college webmasters who are renting links for thousands a year under 301 conditions and customers pay happily and keep asking for more.

So if you are selling slots on a real respected institution you can make even hundreds of thousands, but if it's some noname edu.xx you'll stop making anything when the clients don't see any benefits.

thanks for your reply, these arent links though on a .edu,this is your own account to build blogs from scratch on a goverment .edu. i have given 1 account away so they verify it exists

Sorry no longer going to do this due to the legal issues!
