do you fake your whois info?

YES I do use privacy on my DOMAINS

before I used privacy I used to "fake" the info
but privacy on whois seems to work quite well

did a simple search to try to find an option that allows
you to find the owner of a domain even if they have privacy
but couldn't find one ???

so hope I'm safe

just to make sure I looked out of my window, I didn't see
any feds or any FBI parked outside, I think I'm ok!

One thing, with namcheap you first register and then they put on privacy, so if your info is there, it is already public. I checked this with them... so maybe you can put some alias, then get privacy on, then change it to the real user info. I have not tried it.

I always read both good and bad reviews about godaddy, I use them since 2007 and I didn't have any problems with them, maybe it's just luck.. I have around ten domains regged with them but I also use moniker, netfirms and name, and same no problems.

And on the topic: I keep my whois info real, and when I need I add privacy.

I been doing this for years just simply opt out of the whois when registering and use an alias for the registerd name there also should be the option to opt out in your domain settings after registering with some registrars

if ever questioned about the alias just tell them its registered for a client

I can't really imagine how come they are the world's #1 registrar with that cluttered control panel. It's fully crammed with ads as if you are getting the domains for free. And when it comes to do any change or push, you have to survive their tons of offers of services on the way.

The only situation I use them is when I buy a domain from someone who has it registered there, Then at the same moment I get the domain ownership I transfer it to Dynadot.

Godaddy should be GoAddy with all the ads in their panel.

but yeah, if it is a really good domain that you plan to have forever, better register using namecheap as they have free privacy.

I fake my Whois data but on my big-money domains, I use a DBA name or business name. But mostly it's fake info (commercial address etc). The tiny % of trolls who'll bother you makes it worth faking -- for me at least.

You really can't get arrested from faking Whois data, the registrar will send you an email asking you to update it if they catch it.

On the other hand, I've gotten JV offers to my whois email before, so probably worth having that field legit.
