Or the next best thing which is already being done and will inevitebly lead to that, Cryonics. We have the technology to be 'frozen' to be restored at a later time, we just haven't figured out the restore process yet.

I don't think anyone actually read that article. The astronomer said that the planet discovered is too big (7x size of Earth) and is tidally locked. However, he believes that there may be a moon which could harbor life.
This is conflicting with what other scientists are saying Gliese 581 (name of the planet) has "clearly" outside of habitable zone. Although they conclusively agree that it may be possible for life forms to exist, the atmosphere is not sufficient to harbor anything but the most primitive of life. Moons in our solar system are believed to have more chance as possessing life than there.

There are some scientists, scholars, futurists that believe if you can live for 50-100 years you live forever.
That is, we will have the technology to do so.
I have heard where they believe they will be able to download our memories, consciousness to a flash drive.
Mickio Kaku (physicist) was talking about this technology the other day. He believes that's at least 1000 yrs in the future though.
Whereas I have heard others say much less time than that.
I suppose you would have to calculate & make guesstimations using Moore's Law(Computer power doubles every 6-12months)
They have figured out that will continue for as least 200 years.
Pretty amazing.
Did you know the same technology thats in our cell phones was the amount of computer power on board the shuttle that landed on the moon in the 60's?
SO thats 50 yrs ago, and Moore's Law is exponential growth. So imagine what 200 yrs will bring. Whoa...
Anyway, cool post, it will be interesting to see how this develops. I am convinced there is intelligent life our there. Just look at the "Hubble Ultra Deep Field" image & contemplate its implications & you will see what I mean.

Good question. Decided to check it out and here's what I found:
Helios Probes are the fastest objects ever created, and they travel at 150,000 mph. Meaning using our best technology available it would take 4,473 years to travel a lightyear.
20 light years (if that is correct) would be a travel time of 89,460 years.

I did read the article, the fact that it is landlocked poses some interesting questions. One side may be too cold and the other may be too hot to harbor life, but there may be a ring around the middle in which water could pool and be stable enough for life to form.

I think they actually sell stars to people. I heard one guy paid alot of money to name a star after his girlfriend. he got a certificate and everything!

They just discovered how to get to Mars in a reasonable time frame with ion propulsion. Getting to another galaxy isn't going to ever happen. The body wouldn't be able to hold up to the g force. Hell, we can't even dive to the bottom of the ocean.

I would say to stop exploring everything and learn how to travel at speed of light first, it is possible, period.

You're way way off.
Using a current NASA space shuttle it would take around 765,260 years to get there (that's at 17,500 miles an hour).
Using the fastest unmanned space craft we currently have it would take around 85,000 years (travelling at 157,000 miles an hour).
Either way it's obvious current technology is no where near advanced enough.
Makes you realise how insanely large our galaxy is though if this is considered close
