A 254 word article is generally garbage anyway... write one that has more substance to get your readers thinking you are an authority on your subject and you'll get a better click through ratio.

I think the problem was I had some numbers in the article and it was counting those as words even thought they don't count.

I always spell out my numbers, to me it looks more professional.

Spell out numbers if they're under 10 or the first word in a sentence. Write them out numerically otherwise.

Yea. I pretty much follow this saying. I wouldn't say it is a "rule" but it definitely is a known phrase. Nothing "rules" me!
