No way to change it even if you use a VPN. It will still detect the main account opening country : D
Like you said, the only thing you can do is go to Settings, then Privacy, and change the “About this account” option from showing your country to showing your region or continent.
I get why it’s annoying for anyone who wants to keep their location private, because I don’t totally like it either. But at the end of the day, it is what it is.
Even on LinkedIn, your location is always shown on accounts : )
1. "Account based in" is easily manipulated by using a VPN in a specific location long enough. You'll get an exclamation mark next to it, but who cares - your location is spoofed.
2. The only way to manipulate the "connected via" is to:
- Delete the X app entirely on your phone.
- Offload the app, and remove all cache files and history.
- Change your App Store (apple account) location to desired country, let's say Netherlands or Luxembourg. (You'll receive an e-mail from apple that your account is updated.)
- Download the X app in the app store that now holds the new location.
If asked for payment method, just choose none. Your normal payment method usually won't get accepted in the new country.
- Sign in on on the X app with IP (use VPN) in the same location as the location of the app store.
- Comment, like, post something.
-> Switch apple account back to your actual location without deleting the X app.
Done.
Now your X account will show connected via 'spoofed location' app store.
The new metadata of the fresh X app together with the IP that matches the location forces and overrides the old information.
3. Just know X doesn't update this info instantly, it took 5-6 days for me before the info reflected on my account.
Cheers.
