X Rolls Out Country Labels on User Profiles for Authenticity. The feature, announced on November 16, displays account locations derived from signals like IP addresses, app store regions, and posting behavior, with rollout beginning shortly after. Users can choose to show specific countries, regions, or opt out, though opting out marks profiles as hidden; EU accounts show regions to meet regulations. Proponents view it as a tool to expose fake accounts and foreign interference, while critics highlight privacy risks and potential dangers for activists in repressive areas.

Any way to bypass this? Hide location, or update a different location?

No safe or legitimate way exists to bypass or fake the new X (Twitter) country labels, because they are generated from multiple internal signals you cannot fully control.

No way to change it even if you use a VPN. It will still detect the main account opening country : D

Like you said, the only thing you can do is go to Settings, then Privacy, and change the “About this account” option from showing your country to showing your region or continent.

I get why it’s annoying for anyone who wants to keep their location private, because I don’t totally like it either. But at the end of the day, it is what it is.

Even on LinkedIn, your location is always shown on accounts : )

1. "Account based in" is easily manipulated by using a VPN in a specific location long enough. You'll get an exclamation mark next to it, but who cares - your location is spoofed.

2. The only way to manipulate the "connected via" is to:

- Delete the X app entirely on your phone.
- Offload the app, and remove all cache files and history.
- Change your App Store (apple account) location to desired country, let's say Netherlands or Luxembourg. (You'll receive an e-mail from apple that your account is updated.)
- Download the X app in the app store that now holds the new location. If asked for payment method, just choose none. Your normal payment method usually won't get accepted in the new country.
- Sign in on on the X app with IP (use VPN) in the same location as the location of the app store.
- Comment, like, post something.

-> Switch apple account back to your actual location without deleting the X app.

Done.

Now your X account will show connected via 'spoofed location' app store.

The new metadata of the fresh X app together with the IP that matches the location forces and overrides the old information.

3. Just know X doesn't update this info instantly, it took 5-6 days for me before the info reflected on my account.

Cheers.

You can’t fully bypass it since X uses IP and account signals but using a stable VPN or proxy can shift the detected country a lot though it’s never guaranteed and hiding it marks your profile as hidden anyway

There’s no official way to bypass this feature. X determines your location from signals like IP and app store region, so you can’t freely change it.
You can only hide your location, but your profile will be marked as “location hidden.

My proxies make my account show up without any location details at all.

Wait till you see the new android version of X, about to get even tougher, if you do install it you can still revert for now.

There will never be an official way. The way I explained, works. It does the IP part you mention (VPN), and I've showed how to change the app store region.

Try for yourself, it works. Else I wouldn't take the time to write it down and share.

users have a very short attention span. don't make a big deal of it, and everybody will forget about it in a couple of weeks.
or you can agree and amplify, which may lead to growing your followers' base. treat everything as an opportunity

I wouldnt be trippin over this thing

i think it works if you use it on a pc with a good web browser +vpn, it says connected via web

The new X location labels add transparency, but they also raise real privacy concerns for people who rely on anonymity. Maybe platforms need better ways to verify trust without exposing users. How do you think they should balance safety and privacy?

look at the, Spanish PM speech he did recently, he says they want to show even more info about the people that own social media accounts, and they want to end online anonymity. My guess is someone pushed Elon to add this to X.

Hey does this method still work? Are you currently able to spoof your displayed location using a VPN?

how do you do the same to change to "Connected via Web"?

how do you do the same to change to "Connected via Web"?
This is as good as impossible. Once connected through any mobile store, it remains.

You can create an entirely new account and only login through web. That's the only way I have found now.
