I contacted this guy about his idea. I have to agree on the rudeness front. I simple asked a series of questions to try and figure out what the plan was, only to hear a bunch of 'ideas' that went in circles with nothing solid.
I couldn't add up what all the money was going towards, till he seemed to think that a good domain needed to be bought for more than $200 for some reason to be a 'good' domain. Guess after numerous negative responses to this he decided against that and now just wants the VB licensing paid for, thus the lessor request coming days later.
Being forgiving of the obvious lack of age without knowing his age, I persisted to try and continue to figure things out, to which I was eventually told I was a waste of his time. After giving some light lessons on market research when he couldn't answer any basic questions about the market identification, and attempting to figure out why he doesn't build up his current forum since it hasn't succeeded, and it has the potential too.. I got the most bizarre response I ever heard:
mistergemini: I don't see any evidence of any serious promotion of your current forum
mistergemini: which is why I asked.. why abandon it.. why not recreate it
mistergemini: relaunch
joshmac..: I tried others, runescrape was the easyest market.
joshmac..: because MyBB truely does suck.
mistergemini: so you hit the delete and install vb.. or another forum app
joshmac..: I am not willing to invest in something that has a good chance of succeeding, thus was I start with vBulletin, where I can start fresh.
mistergemini: alright.. well.. if you come up with a plan and still need an investor let me know.. but you just said you were not willing to invest into something that has a good chance of succeeding.. so I don't understand what you will invest into then.

He tries to play the 'take away' sales technique with a mix of the 'i'm a bad ass' type attitude earlier on, not realizing that those of us who actually know what we are talking about, and actually have 1000s X more than the mere $250 he can't seem to make for himself, see through this whole act... and laugh.
Proceed with caution if you want to try and work with him. To be perfectly frank, he can still do plenty with his current forum which he has yet to make succeed the way it could. Instead he just wants to toss it... judging from some of the commentaries here, my guess now is because he pissed off the previous JVs and he needs to bail on something new they won't find him in. At least, the responses you see here make that a more likely scenario, but who cares really.
Just ask yourself the simple question, do you want this guy playing with your money if he doesn't know how to raise a mere $300 online on his own? If your answer to that question is yes you do, then you are far more of a risk taker than him, because he said straight up he
won't "invest in something that even has a good chance to succeed."
You can see I took a week before saying anything... I figured there was going to be a nice trail of destruction coming if he treated others with the same disregard and disrespect that I got... so here I am just riding the tail-end.

PS: I'm willing to invest in sending Josh to Africa for 1 year (Nigeria, South Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya... pick your poison, I can make it happen). I got some connections there that can help take care of him. See how he does trying to speak their language just so he can get food to eat, and how well he will do when he insults people in their own country.
PSS: You live in Canada son, many people in that great country (over 1/2 of them as a matter of fact) DO NOT speak English as their first language. You better learn to show some well due respect to those people, because your attitude won't take you far when you are begging for a job at McDs or your local gas bar from one of them.
