Is AI Killing SEO? My Thoughts After Working in Link Building

Lately I have seen many people claiming that AI will completely replace SEO

After spending years working with backlinks and SEO projects I see things a bit differently

I don’t think SEO is disappearing anytime soon

What I do think is that low quality SEO is becoming less effective while quality SEO is becoming more important than ever

A few years ago many websites could rank with basic content and a large number of backlinks

Today search engines are much better at understanding content quality user intent and brand authority

AI has definitely changed the landscape


Almost anyone can generate content within minutes now


Because of that search engines need stronger signals to determine which websites deserve trust and visibility

In my view the future of SEO will rely more on


Topical authority

Real brands

Helpful content

Technical SEO

Better user experience

High quality backlinks

Genuine brand mentions across the web

AI is a powerful tool but I don’t see it replacing SEO

Instead it is changing how SEO professionals work and how websites compete for visibility

Those who learn how to use AI alongside SEO will probably have a significant advantage over those who ignore it

SEO will evolve with AI and become AEO. People will be searching for stuff on AI LLMs and you'd have to be featured there in order to get eyeballs to your websites/blogs.

Yeah, Totally agree with you. But zero-click search will impact websites significantly.

The game isn't disappearing, the rules are just changing and they are changing faster than before... Those who adapt will probably do better than ever and those still using 2020 tactics are going to have a hard time surviving

Nikolaos did it perfectly with AEO. one thing I woould add from a link building side, AI actually makes backlinks more valuable not less. when everyone can produce content in minutes the content signal weakens. so what separates sites? trust signals. and backlinks are still the strongest trust signal google has. the sites getting featured in AI answers are almost always the ones with the strongest backlink profiles. so if AI is killing anything it is killing weak content. it is not killing links.

I think AI will reshape SEO rather than replace it. Search engines will always need ways to identify the most relevant, trustworthy and useful content, which is essentially what SEO helps with. AI can automate many tasks, but building authority, trust, a strong brand and a great user experience still requires human strategy and effort.

seo isn't dying, easy seo is. ai flooded the web with average content, so trust signals matter more. strong brands, real links, user engagement and topical depth stand out now. same game, just harder to fake.

I agree.

The truth is AI needs constant content from data from real people, and social media is not enough. You would enter into the dead internet theory territory if we take away the value of individual contributions to the internet through AI itself.

I'm AI positive, but I'm completely against massive corporations taking away value from business owners, experts, and artists in order to charge a subscription fee for that knowledge that they never give royalties to the original people for.

What this does is it makes publishing authoritative information not worth it and then AI cannibalizes itself.

Artificial intelligence is not hurting search engine optimization it is actually making it better. Because it is now easier to make content things like being an authority being trustworthy having an user experience and having good quality backlinks are even more important. Search engine optimization is changing it is not going away. The people who get used to working with artificial intelligence will probably do better, than the people who do not want to use it. Artificial intelligence and search engine optimization are. People need to understand how artificial intelligence is affecting search engine optimization.
