Who is the cheapest Domain regostrar?

are the namecheap domain renewal prices really that much higher than the initial registration cost?

Building on the Cloudflare Registrar idea, their at-cost pricing model indeed keeps renewals low, with most domains costing between $8-$15 per year, and they don't charge extra for WHOIS privacy. I've personally used them for over 2 years now, and their automated DNS setup has been seamless, with zero downtime. For those concerned about KYC, Cloudflare Registrar doesn't require phone or ID verification, making it a more private option compared to Porkbun. In terms of stability, Cloudflare's infrastructure is top-notch, with built-in DDoS protection and SSL certificates. Overall, Cloudflare Registrar offers the best long-term value for domains, with transparent pricing and reliable service.
Honestly, I don't like the idea of Cloudflare at all. I am not saying that they are not reliable or similar, but they already have too much influence, even if they took over the dominance as a domain registry, they would easily become monopolists.
Usually, all "new" registries are the most favorable at the beginning of the first couple of years, only to raise their prices significantly at some point and make a profit on those who, by inertia, only extend domains.
I have a serious number of sites that go through CF CDN, all on the free plan. I will be in serious trouble if they cancel the free option. I don't even know what the alternative would be

now - spaceship cheapest, but they often suspending without reasoning
Spaceship is a daughter of Namecheap. Their idea is to cover those who want to pay for a cheaper domain compared to commercial users

Aren't they all standard now?

I often get some coupons from the 367 registrars I've used in the past and buy from there

Back in the day I used to have an opinion on registrars

Not anymore tbh

Id throw LuxHost into the mix. Prices are fair, domain setup is pretty smooth, and it doesnt feel like one of those bait-and-switch registrar deals, stable + not annoying, which matters more imo.

I wouldnt chase the absolute lowest price tho. Some registrars are cheap but the panel is trash, support is slow, or renewals get cooked later. Better to look at the full yearly cost, not just the promo price, im working with lux 1yo, noone problem and issue

When choosing for cheaper renewal, it is recommended to evaluate each registrar from the perspective of cost after the first year, not only during the promotional period. Both Porkbun and Spaceship could be good options but consider the cost of renewal and transfer, as well as support.

I use the Namemart platform; you can contact their customer service to get a better price.

yeah, for .com the real number is renewal, not the first checkout price. cheap today and cheap after 2-3 renewals are usually not the same thing...

if you want boring and stable, Dynadot or Porkbun still feel like the safer middle ground. Cloudflare is hard to beat on price if you already live in their ecosystem, but i get the concern about putting too much in one basket. Spaceship can look nice on paper, but support / random suspensions is exactly the kind of headache that kills the savings.
