What Do I Need to Start a YouTube Channel?

Just start one and figure it out later. Check out Mr. Beast, he started the same way. You'll get better as you go on.

Depends what your trying to do, or what you find you are drawn to in the land of production. People do well with just a mobile too, but you can use software, and make animations, or you can get a tripod & camera, or just a plain webcam. Whatever you feel is the best for what you can imagine or youd like to do.

Man, don't waste your money on gear yet. Your phone is already better than what most pros started with.

Just grab a cheap $20 mic—bad audio is the only thing that actually kills a channel. Use CapCut for editing and stand by a window for light. That's literally all you need.

Post 10-20 videos first. If you don't quit by then, maybe think about a camera. But for now? Just start.

It depends on your strategy. If you want to record yourself speaking, a phone is enough. Reverb would be an issue until you get a mic. You should take some precautions to prevent reverb. If you want AI content, animation, products, etc., you'll need additional things.

A gmail account and a dream

You can start with just a phone. Focus on content first, upgrade equipment later when the channel starts growing.

just a smartphone and basic editing apps, if you wanna step it up a good audio, clear lighting, and consistent content matter way more in the beginning than expensive equipment

I’m planning to start a channel but not sure what I need first. Is a phone enough or do I need proper equipment?
In fact, some of the biggest creators on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram started with nothing but a smartphone and a good idea. Modern phones have incredible cameras that can shoot in 4K, which is more than enough for high-quality content. However, while you don't need fancy gear right away, there is a catch: bad audio and bad lighting will ruin a video faster than a lower-resolution camera.

Your Phone is enough to start, you can add other equipments as needed during the course.

That depends on your strategy and the type of video content you want to upload. If your video requires a lot of editing effects, you can use additional equipment besides your phone.

It depends on what you want to do, if you just want to do Live, the phone is enough. If you want to edit long videos or record your screen with OBS Studio, for example, you'll need a PC / laptop to run the necessary software

i’m not a youtuber, but i’d say a phone is enough in the beginning. most newer phones can record good video, especially if you film near a window or use a cheap ring light.

the first thing i’d buy is not a camera, but a small mic. bad audio makes people leave fast. phone + decent light + cheap mic is enough until you know what type of videos you’ll actually keep making.

You probably need a tool like VidIQ too!

Many successful channels started with just a smartphone and good ideas The key is to keep learning and improving over time
