Hi. I'm from Iran and am a web developer so I figured a news/media outlet might get me some bucks while having long term goals as well. according to google trends "IRan Us war" and Iran news is high demand so I made a site with breaking news and live coverage. I had Aljazeera and BBC in mind.
its a lovable/supabase project and I'm trying to catch up with everything.
my goal is to get 500 subscribers and some 50 000 viewers per month. do you think thats achievable? my monetization plan is Adsense, substack, BuymeaCoffee and or donations.

I'm about to start my social media presence. Do you have anything in mind about X or others before I start posting. I'm thinking about starting X for starters. I dunno weather I should stick with the official app and make an account with it or should I use a third party app that would manage all my social media posting in one place. will I be able to get twitter api v2 to post directly from my site? I don't want to pay more than 10$ for a social media manager like Hookle...do you know anything free? I also have other websites I want to have social presence, what are easy but rewarding social medias I should apply for? is there a windows app that would manage all social medias in one app?

I know it might sound bad, but if you live in Iran, it’s kind of a goldmine to share inside news from your own country. However, you need to be careful not to have issues with the authorities there. In any war, sharing news that the government doesn’t want the outside public to know can cause serious problems. Still, if you can safely share videos or images from inside Iran, I believe it could spark a lot of interest from people who want to understand what is really happening there.

With 50,000 page views, you won’t make much money right now—it depends on where your traffic is coming from. If it’s mainly from the USA, you might earn some decent money. The best option is to use Claude or ChatGPT to research your niche, understand its potential, and also learn what to be careful about when publishing this kind of news.

I suggest to start Youtube channel and an X.com , Reddit account, and sharing videos/images ... can boost your growth much faster.

timing is wild on this, i ran a niche news site for about 8 months and the supabase + lovable combo is actually underrated for moving fast but my traffic died every time a story went cold because i had zero email capture set up early on. whats your current plan for keeping the 500 subscribers engaged between the big news cycles, like when iran-us tension cools down for a few weeks?

Maybe focus more on building the idea itself that can outlast the war because what if the war ends within a month or a week after you put so much into setting things up for it?

So I would advise you to set it up in a way that you could use it for any other trending topic at any moment

And yeah, X is a good place to start if you are really following trends there about the war but there is no guarantee your content would actually get traction from the start

I think where you could more likely see almost instant traction is if you create video content as well and work with TikTok : )

check out telegram ukraine channels they seem to be doing good. take video that you get frrom local sources and dub audio to them in usa language or something like that... dont just display news make videos better start collecting local videos from ppl pay them maybe even for the vids..

Need a social media collaborater

I don't dare to send out vids from inside

It’s achievable, but not by trying to compete directly with big news outlets. A generic “breaking news” site will struggle. What works better is focusing on fast summaries, explanations, timelines, and “what this means” content. That’s easier to rank and performs much better on social.

500 subscribers is realistic within a couple months. 50K monthly traffic is possible in 3–6 months if you rely on social, not just SEO.

For X, don’t just post links. Post short updates and threads, then occasionally link to your site. That’s how you grow. Manual posting is better at the start anyway.

You don’t need to pay for tools yet. Free options like Buffer, Publer or Metricool are enough, or just use native apps. Most paid schedulers aren’t worth it early on.

Twitter API isn’t really free anymore, so automating posts directly from your site will likely cost money. You can use simple workarounds like RSS tools, but manual is still better for engagement.

If you want easier wins, consider Telegram and short-form video platforms. News summaries in short videos can grow very fast.

Also, I know of a platform that helps boost early traction and visibility for content like this, especially when you’re starting out, by improving how your pages get picked up and engaged with. It’s not a replacement for strategy, but it can help speed things up.

Focus on being fast and clear, not just another news source. That’s how you reach those numbers.

Aljazeera and BBC are not websites they are big news corporations. And not only that they are funded by Qatari and British government.
Make correct assumptions and set right expectations.

It's very hard living in this situation. I payed a lot to have a slow and unstable internet to find out I can't make money online.

The iranians i know that are making money are on TikTok and X doing short videos
not about bombs itself, but showing how are the effects of the war
for example, i know one that her cat was super beautiful, but after this shit, it's dying of hunger
i wouldn't start a website now, it takes too much time to see results
start a social media page, receive donations, expose how things are thanks to America
a whole news website is not easy to create, much less with a slow and unstable internet

I got that part covered. Its https://iranchronicles.com

The problem is I've never been good with social media. I dunno maybe I'm too shy or scared of the authorities. They monitor social media pretty closely... And have started doing suppression on a level you can't imagine. Everyday I hear stories of known citizens getting beaten to death... Literally...

It's their stategy now that are weakened. Do crime in bright daylight to scare off people from coming to streets. I don't want to receive such beating and thats being lucky.
But I need to do something regardless of what's gonna happen to me cuz I invested so much over internet. They declared on the television that the having internet alone tantamounts to crime. You won't believe it though

And I can't even write in this situation!

Now that bridges, trains and infrastructure is hit I'm thinking of another website cashing in on reconstruct projects... Opened business opportunities, hiring Iranian talent/companies... What domain names do you suggest?

War news without images and videos is useless. How would you handle it in the context of copyright strikes? Instead of a website, why not focus on X (Twitter)? X.com can monetise and grow faster.

since I'm not good with socila media I'm thinking of changing my focus to a b2b hire board for rebuilding the damaged bridges/infastructure power plants as a help to reconstruct the country including its 13 milion capital city

And that on your current site in a different category as it relates to your main topic and will generate more traffic to the site.

Be sure to interlink when you do that.

Making this site made me realize something, that the age of websites is over... It's all social media and the blue tick mark...

Social Media can drive traffic to your website where you generate revenue.

I saw that SMis not your thing.... do you have a friend that is well versed there?

You can partner up with them.
