Are automated backlinks still useful or completely dead?

Automated backlinks aren't "dead" yet, but if used incorrectly, they're almost certainly counterproductive in SEO 2026. Why are automated backlinks losing effectiveness now? Google's algorithms are much smarter. They don't just look at the number of links anymore, but focus on: Link context, Relevance, a powerful spam detection system, and more effective alternative strategies. In my opinion, instead of auto backlinks, you should focus on: Topical Authoritatives.

Automated backlinks are mostly ignored or flagged today so they’re risky and not effective for real rankings.

Automated backlinks are mostly ineffective now because search engines can detect and ignore or penalize them
so It’s better to focus on earning high-quality, relevant backlinks through real content and outreach.

I think automated backlinks are pretty risky now, especially for beginners. In my experience, most of those tools create low-quality or spammy links that don’t last and can even hurt your site.

Hi :)

Purely automated links won’t give anything to your site. But that doesn’t mean they’re useless.
I use GSA to boost my guest posts. Read about the “tiered link building” method.

In short, I build several tiers of links for my guest posts.
The scheme looks like this:

My site ← a good guest post ← 10 inexpensive guest posts ← for each of those 10 posts I add 10 more links from Web 2.0 ← and for each Web 2.0 I add 100 more automated links.

This way, my site technically gets just one link, but much more link equity is passed.

Short answer is they're pretty much dead for any positive seo impact and can actually hurt your site, so it's generally best to steer clear of them these days and focus on earning high-quality, natural links instead. Automated links usually signal low quality to search engines, which isn't what you want
