Using Money As Flyers

Hey guys,
I just got this idea which I think could actually work pretty well and I want to share my thoughts with you and do a little bit of brainstorming.
It's pretty simple: Why not use our banknotes as flyers? All we need to do is have a short domain which arouses interest and then write it on all our banknotes we use to buy our daily groceries
The number of people who will potentially see the "ad" grows exponentially with every day since (unlike a flyer) nobody throws money away
What would be important is that the domain should cover a very non-specific market because reaching targeted people with this method would be quite difficult obviously. Maybe a blog on how to make money online or something like that, but there are countless other options because you don't have to deal with competition.
Of course this could be easily scaled up by giving people (friends for example) a small amount of money to get them to write your domain on their banknotes as well.
So what do you think about this method? It's your turn

This is the question I also ask myself and it may highly depend on the country you are in. But I did a quick research and it looks like since you are the owner of your money you can do with it whatever you want.

Yeah this might be in line with defacing the currency, but I might be wrong. If it is illegal, then I wouldn't want my website on the money as that could be traced back to me...On the other hand, it wouldn't be a bad idea to put your competitors website on it

I'm in Europe. I just found a thread in a German legal forum where they say it is legal to write on your money, but it could happen that it won't be accepted by others (though I think in 99,9% of the cases nobody cares). But I would suggest don't to write on your 500 Euro banknotes

That website encourages people to enter a bill using it's series (it's year), it's denomination & it's serial number.

Then, they encourage you to write on the bill something to the effect of "track this bill at www.wheresgeorge.com"

That site has an Alexa of around 44K.

Then, when somebody else enters a bill that you've entered, it shows you how far it's traveled, where the bill is at now, how many miles per day it traveled, etc, etc, etc.

Here is an example of a "bill report" (a bill that I entered years & years ago):

The site was investigated by the Secret Service for defacing money. They were found to be doing nothing wrong/encouraging others to do nothing wrong as they weren't making the money unfit to be reissued.

I have done this to promote a band actually, and yes, it works.
I have had bills with writing on them as well, and every place has taken it, so that really isn't a risk.

Just go cash a $20 into twenty $1 bills. Stamp each and pay at different places.
Works like a charm.

They're called "toss cards"....

they look like folded $100 bills, $20 bills, etc.

Inside, you advertise your message. Outside, they look like a folded bill.

Google "toss cards" or toss cards dot com for an example.

These are really cool. Drop them on the ground and sit back and watch people grab them up.

This is exactly right...no one owns money, all currency belongs to the government. But i think this is a freaking awesome idea, i never thought of something like this before. But i think you would have to target something local to your country and something very general..

This is a sweet idea and I'm pretty sure it's legal in Canada but not in the US. Good thing I'm in Canada . Might want to call up a law office or something just to be sure though.
