So, I downloaded Telegram for Windows. I installed. I launched. I had an option "Scan from Mobile Telegram" which was demanding to open Telegram on my phone, BUT I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TELEGRAM ON MY PHONE - instead of it I chose "Log in using phone number". I gave my phone numebr... and I get message "A code was sent via telegram to your other devices, if you have any connected". But my phone is not connected to telegram. I wanted to use it to just get code to log in to Telegram on my PC. I don;t want to install Telegram on my phone, does it mean I cannot install it on my PC?

I'm not sure if you can just spoof your windows browser agent, or if part of their security is you need to instal the actual hard software app. If you can't and you ask google and chatgpt etc then don't worry you won't miss much. lol

I don't remember how I set it up as it was a long time ago but if I could figure that out, anyone can.
Hopefully, someone who knows the step-by-step can pop in here and help you out.

As far as i remember, there was an option to send the code via SMS to your phone number so you can skip installing the application on your phone.
Or you don't want your mobile to be involved at all? Cause then that is not a viable option too.
But i think that was the way i had done it like 2-3 months ago so it should be like that still

It's very simple
Use an Android emulator like MEmu Player or NOX Player (for windows)
Install Telegram on it—the SMS code will be sent there.
Then just uninstall the app
Or you can keep it just in case. You might need to set up your Telegram account on another Windows computer, and then you’ll have a place to receive the SMS code. It will be sent to the Telegram app installed in the Android emulator.

Unfortunately, I recently ran into the same problem. The SMS code is sent to your phone when you register for Telegram on a mobile device (or in an Android emulator).
I also looked for ways to get around this.
And the method using an Android emulator worked for me.

Ah okay good to know! I thought you could do it on PC only without using smartphone, it has been months so i dont remember the actual process of how i had done it. Most people find it frustrating though that you can use it only on PC without trying to bypass steps.. Idk why they just dont let you use browser only version

They don’t send login codes via SMS anymore. The code is sent only to your other active Telegram devices. So if you don’t have it on your phone, there’s no way to receive the code on your PC.
Basically you need to install it on your phone once to log in, then the desktop app will work. Some people use a temporary phone just to get the first code and then mainly use the PC version.

Telegram requires an existing mobile session to send login codes to other devices which is why you cannot start a brand new account directly on the PC version. You must install the mobile app on a phone or an emulator just once to complete the initial registration and receive the verification code. After you have successfully logged into the Windows application you can safely uninstall the mobile app and your PC session will remain active for future use. If you absolutely cannot use a physical phone you should install an Android emulator like BlueStacks to run the mobile version of Telegram for the registration process. This is the only way to bypass the requirement because the desktop app is designed as an extension of a mobile account rather than a standalone registration tool.

You can install any decent emulator on your PC and telegram on the emulator and your code there.
Yeah emulators work 100% perfectly for this kind of job.
I tried it, still feirts thing it does is asking me to connect with a phone.

You can not skip the phone part at first login. Telegram needs to send the code to an active device. so, you will have to use phone to get it start once.
Which means I will not use Telegram
If there is no way, than this thread can be closed.
