Your thoughts on MacBook Neo?

I just got an email [Yes, I am a PC guy], but it looks like a low-entry point to get a MacBook for those who otherwise couldn't afford one? What are your thoughts on it? [Starting price $599]

I really like it, but 8 gigs of ram sounds ridiculously low. I do believe Apple could do better, as it's simply ... as powerful as their ipad but has ... a keyboard with a worse screen, no?

You still get more bang for your buck if you go the Windows laptop route imo, but this new macbook is interesting.

Well, not a Apple fan myself, but I have seen performance numbers that are just above an old M1 so one might get a better deal buying a used M1 macbook maybe, there are a lot of those out there.

At $599, the MacBook Neo is a true entry-level Mac, ideal for students or first-time users. Expect some compromises on performance, but it’s a low-risk way to try macOS without spending $1k. Best suited for light tasks like browsing, streaming, and basic work.

Honestly, it looks solid — great performance and battery life — but unless you need the extra power or new features, an older MacBook still does the job for most people.

If budget is concerned, my choice would be to get the m4 mac mini and the peripherals like a monitor, keyboard and mouse. I guess the new mac mini base model comes with 512gb of ssd memory and 16gb ram which should be enough for light to moderate work (i am talking docker, davinci resolve 1080p projects etc). I would also get an external ssd (or a m.2 ssd + enclosure) for saving big files.


Macbook neo is intended more for students than working professionals. If your work is cloud only, go for macbook neo. But I don’t recommend it for heavier workloads.

Looks like a cheap entry Mac so it will be very basic. Apple usually cuts storage and screen on low price models.

Good for browsing and light work but not for heavy stuff.

Most peoples don't use their laptop at their potential but mostly for browsing and they need long battery life so macbook air in 500-600$ budget will fit well these needs so i don't see why will not have sucess . Is basically a m1 or so air in lower budget so that is incredible already
