Who Is Still Actively Using Facebook in 2026?

Facebook's "decline" is a myth; it’s just shifting from a social hub to a massive high-intent buyer database. The engagement is now driven by the "Silver Economy" (older demographics with high purchasing power) and hyper-niche Facebook Groups where the real conversion happens. People left for TikTok for entertainment, but they stay on FB for the commerce and community-driven trust.

So, has Facebook transformed from a social media platform into a commercial platform where large-scale buying and selling takes place? This is a significant change.

It still brings me customers. Most of my customers come from Facebook. Facebook is the most powerful source of free traffic.
It seems like most people use Facebook like an advertising agency.

According to Google data, Facebook isn't "running out of users," but rather its role has changed. Globally, a significant number of internet users aged 16 and older have started using Facebook in recent months, and Meta reports that Facebook alone will surpass 2 billion daily users by the end of 2025 and early 2026.

Facebook is definitely different now, but it’s far from dead. A lot of the activity has shifted to Groups, Marketplace, and niche communities, rather than personal posting in the main feed.

These statistics about Facebook don't seem very realistic to me. Looking around me, the number of Facebook users is extremely low, and most of those who do use it are elderly or middle-aged.

Mostly older people, niche groups, and businesses keep Facebook alive now; younger users moved to TikTok and Reels.

I still use Facebook quite actively, especially for things like Marketplace and local groups. From my experience, there are still plenty of opportunities there for buying, selling, and connecting with people in specific niches.

I don't see it that way. In my country, Facebook is still the most widely used platform. Facebook users are very diverse, ranging from young to old.

So Facebook has transformed from a social media platform into an advertising and commercial space; if you had told someone this 10 years ago, they wouldn't have been able to stop laughing.

Facebook did not really disappear, the usage just changed. Younger users moved to TikTok and IG for fast trends and viral content, while Facebook is more active with 30+ users, groups, and marketplace. Also many people don’t post like before, they mostly scroll, watch videos, and follow pages.

I barely see anyone around me actively using Facebook anymore. Most people I know are on other platforms. So who is actually driving engagement there now — older demographics, specific niches, or business communities?

Facebook used to be such a great and engaging platform, especially in its early years. But now it feels like its popularity has declined a lot. What do you think caused this shift — changing user behavior, too many ads, or stronger competitors?
That's not entirely true it depends on the country. Some countries still only use Facebook as their official app

I think it's a bad thing that all social media apps have shifted towards short videos. Actually, Facebook used to stand out from other social media apps in this respect, but now it seems like Facebook has also become a short video app. I don't know if this is because people are interested in sound and moving visuals.

What could be the reason behind these preferences in different countries? Perhaps countries that use Facebook prefer a slower, calmer lifestyle, while people living in metropolitan areas or with a fast-paced lifestyle might use short video-based social media apps like Instagram and TikTok. Just an opinion.

Many users have had a great experience on Facebook, so they don't want to join and learn about Instagram because everything is really new and they need a lot of time to get used to it

That's probably the mindset of many lazy people :)

I think this is the right choice; apps with short videos are more distracting and lead people to laziness.

Facebook's news feed is now filled with advertisements, so many users have switched to other platforms.
