Who Is Still Actively Using Facebook in 2026?

Older users and local business groups still active. Young crowd moved to other apps long ago.

Too many ads and clutter killed organic feel for many people.

This is a great topic.

Based on my data from Facebook advertising, the main user base of Facebook now consists of middle-aged and elderly people.

If you consider Facebook as a collection of text and images, you can see the current trend: everything is focused on short videos. A lot of traffic has been diverted to TikTok or YouTube. People prefer more intuitive and dynamic videos.

Facebook, from the beginning, adapted to the era of text and images. Back then, short videos didn't exist, and Facebook's social attributes suited all young people and middle-aged and elderly people.

But now, with the emergence of so many social media apps, young people have many choices, and fewer people are looking at text and images.

Meanwhile, middle-aged and elderly people, because their social circles haven't completely shifted to Facebook, remain the main user group for Facebook.

It really depends on the country and demographic. In markets like the US or UK, younger audiences tend to spend more time on platforms built around short videos. Facebook seems stronger with older demographics, local communities, and business networking.

It's a social media widely used by boomers, It is also a very good source of traffic

I barely see anyone around me actively using Facebook anymore. Most people I know are on other platforms. So who is actually driving engagement there now — older demographics, specific niches, or business communities?

Facebook used to be such a great and engaging platform, especially in its early years. But now it feels like its popularity has declined a lot. What do you think caused this shift — changing user behavior, too many ads, or stronger competitors?
I also used TikTok more than Facebook in a day lol .

Cuz you not "see" enough. Facebook is still a very profitable platforms

Often, when i need to sell my old stuff i go with facebook. sold quickly but also negotiated hard

Facebook still has a very large user base, but its core audience tends to be older compared to some other platforms. Younger users are often more active on platforms like Instagram or other emerging social apps, so choosing the right channel depends on the demographic you want to reach.

Facebook remains the world's largest platform today and attracts a large number of free visitors; Facebook will still be a great platform in 2026.

It seems that adults tend to use Facebook more, while young people are switching to TikTok quite a lot; however, Facebook remains a platform that professional business people can leverage.

From my IRL circle i think only people 50-60 use regularly facebook nowdays
most people i know 25-35 range are using instagram and some use TikTok myself included

Currently, many new social media platforms are becoming popular, but I think Facebook always provides good entertainment for all ages

Facebook isn’t dead, it just changed.

Main users now: 30+, local groups, Marketplace, business owners.

Younger people moved to TikTok/IG.

Too many ads + algorithm changes made it less fun, more utility.

I think they haven't completely ruined the naturalness of Facebook yet. Facebook will always have a following, though.

I think Facebook still has a lot of users. It's true that those who use Facebook also use other platforms, but they definitely still use Facebook, just not as much as before. So if the content is truly engaging and keeps them on, there's no reason for them to leave.

It’s still used a lot, especially by older users and local groups. Maybe not the trendiest platform now, but it still has strong reach.

Actually, I think it's better for people of all ages to use Facebook instead of other social media apps for a peaceful life. Because there are very few distracting short videos or content that leads people to negativity on Facebook.

I use Facebook daily, and as I approach my 46th birthday this year, I have no intention of switching to another platform—I’m committed to this one. While I explore other networks for business and marketing research, Facebook remains my go-to for real, personal sharing. Even though many of my friends have migrated to other platforms, they still post personal content here.

I genuinely miss the old user experience; the current interface bombards me with ads, and it often makes finding genuine information a challenge. I also find Facebook Marketplace invaluable. Just last Tuesday, when my fridge broke, I turned to Marketplace to search for a local technician. In just three hours, he was at my home fixing it! I believe this platform is far more efficient than Google My Business for such services. In fact, I should consider recommending Facebook Marketplace to some of my clients for their local services. Regardless,

I’m still an active Facebook user.

depend on geographic locations in most countries people are active and on facebook to connect socially more than other social media platforms

Facebook can generate effective free traffic by sharing posts in relevant groups and creating engaging content. To maintain consistent long-term traffic, Facebook can help.
