We’ve all seen the shift. With Meta’s latest AI update, the way the algorithm treats "Passive Browsing" (Images) vs. "Active Engagement" (Video) has changed significantly. I’ve been running split tests across Finance and E-com niches for the past quarter, and the results are... mixed.

1. The Case for Static Images (The "Underestimated" King)

Many gurus claim "Video is everything," but in my recent campaigns, static images are still holding their ground in specific areas.
  • The Advantage: Higher CTR (Click-Through Rate) on direct-response offers. People know exactly what they’re clicking on.
  • The "Secret Sauce": Using high-contrast, "anti-design" (ugly/authentic) images to break the scroll.
  • Metric: Lower CPC (Cost Per Click) but sometimes higher bounce rates on the landing page.

2. The Case for Short-form Video/Reels (The "Algorithm Darling")

If you want Reach, you go Video. But Reach $\neq$ Revenue.
  • The Advantage: Massive "Pre-warming." A 15-second explainer builds more trust than any static banner ever could.
  • The Problem: High "Creative Fatigue." You need to refresh your hooks every 48-72 hours or your CPMs will skyrocket.
  • Metric: Higher CVR (Conversion Rate) because the traffic is "pre-sold" before they even hit the site.

My 2026 Hybrid Strategy

Currently, I’m using Videos for Top of Funnel (TOF) to build custom audiences based on "95% video views," then Retargeting (MOF/BOF) those users with Static Image social proof/results.

Let's Discuss:

  1. Are you seeing better CPA (Cost Per Acquisition) with Reels or classic Single Image ads right now?
  2. In "Grey-hat" niches (Crypto/Gambling), is Video still the best way to bypass the initial AI creative filter?
  3. How often are you rotating your video hooks to avoid the "Creative Decay"?

Drop your stats below. Let’s see which format is actually putting money in the pocket this month!

For me, Reels usually bring better CPA at the top of the funnel because they build intent and trust before the click. However, single image ads tend to perform more consistently in retargeting and bottom-of-funnel campaigns since they are clearer and more direct.

So right now, I see video working better for prospecting, while static creatives remain more stable for conversion-focused stages.

Using Reels for "Intent Seeding" is a pro move; it feeds the Pixel much richer data before the user even hits the landing page. Sticking with static for retargeting is the smartest way to minimize "Decision Fatigue" and close the sale while the lead is still warm.

Thank you for your feedback. Short videos are attracting potential customers faster because they make an immediate impression on the news page. Using static videos for remarketing is the smartest way to reach potential customers.

Interesting tests. From what I’ve seen, video works better for reach and warming the audience, but static images still convert well in retargeting. A simple video → image retargeting funnel often performs more stable.

From what I’m seeing, video still gets more reach, but static images can still win on direct response and CTR.

Video works well for top of funnel (build trust, warm the audience), while images often perform better for retargeting.

Lately I’ve also noticed creative fatigue on videos pretty fast, so rotating hooks every few days helps a lot.

in 2026, short-form video usually drives higher reach and engagement, especially on social platforms. Static images still have value for retargeting or simple ads, but video is king for scaling quickly.
