Hello!

Im settling up different add sets on my BM manager that target people regarding finance interest! Leads are generated through FB forms and through a questioner that they follow on FB
I'm usually using also advantage + option and also detailed targeting through also cutting the audience by narrowing it

Usually I use detailed targeting interest regarding finance retirement pension and different people that liked or view finance companies or related to finance such as investingcom or other newsletter
I narrow these interest by adding learning or course and after their I narrow more to engaged shoppers

If you are a SEO what improvements you would make to this add sets!
How many detailed targeting options you would ad at the first tier and after on narrowing part
You would target all the country lets say USA or you would go through different states or desired cities?
Which is the best to target a big area or small area and to be more specific?

Thanks in advance

In my opinion, you should test multiple ad groups, and you shouldn't test too many targets for a single ad because Facebook's AI is quite good now and can help you find your target audience very quickly. I think that targeting too many people can make our results expensive.

I’d simplify first: start broader (Advantage+ or 1–2 strong finance interests max), skip too much narrowing early, and let the algorithm learn before stacking “learning + engaged shoppers.” For geo, I’d test nationwide USA first, then break out states/cities only if CPL or lead quality varies a lot. What’s your daily budget per ad set and are these cold leads or warm traffic?

I’d start simpler: use 1–2 strong finance interests at the first tier and avoid stacking too many narrowings early — let Advantage+ do most of the optimization. For geography, testing nationwide USA first works, then break into states/cities only if you see uneven performance. Bigger areas help the algorithm learn, small areas help control relevance — it’s a trade-off between volume and specificity.

Your setup looks fine but it may be a bit over narrowed. I would test an ad set with only core finance interests and let Facebook optimize instead of stacking too many filters. Usually a handful of strong interests is enough. For location I prefer starting with all USA unless the offer is restricted, then later isolate better performing states. In many cases improving the lead form and creatives has more impact than adding more targeting layers.

When you say only core finance interests what do you mean?
Can you give me some examples?

By core finance interests I mean broad and well established interests directly related to money topics, not layered behaviors. for example investing, retirement planning, personal finance, stock market, mutual funds or well known finance media pages. The idea is to give Facebook enough room to find the right people instead of restricting it too much with extra filters.

Don't narrow down the interest too much → easily leads to high CPM and makes the algorithm difficult to learn.
Divide ad sets by intent level (intent & pain), not by "filtering for aesthetics".
Remove Engaged Shoppers and limit "learning/education" filters.
Always have one ad set Broad/Advantage+ so Meta automatically optimizes.
Apply SEO principles to ad content and form questions to filter leads from the start.

In my experience, you should simplify this. I recommend starting with 1-2 key financial areas at the initial level and avoiding adding too many narrowing criteria right from the start. In many cases, improving the lead generation form and ad content has a greater impact than adding more targeting layers.

Bro, experiment with core financial interests and let Facebook optimize, because sometimes improving the form and ad content is more important than adding a layer of targeting.

Instead of building a labyrinth with too many overlapping filters, simplify the core financial interest group and scale it across the USA so that machine learning has enough space to optimize itself. Remember, a compelling ad and a smooth lead form always have more conversion power than any complex targeting technique.

In my opinion, you should experiment with different ad groups and avoid overly broad targeting for a single ad, as Facebook's AI is now effective enough to quickly find the right audience, while excessively broadening the audience can drive up advertising costs.

I’d simplify targeting: use broader finance interests (3–5 max) without heavy narrowing, let Advantage+ learn, and focus more on strong creatives + form questions for qualification. Start nationwide (USA) for data volume, then break out states/cities only after you see clear performance differences.

I think it’s better to test several ad groups rather than trying to pack too many targeting options into one. Facebook’s algorithm is quite capable now and can identify the right audience efficiently when given clear signals. Overloading targeting can sometimes dilute performance and drive costs higher.

I wouldn't narrow down the audience, but would make a clearer offer and specify the specific audience I need in the creative. Facebook is optimized for those who take targeted actions. If the wrong people are submitting applications, then the creative is not targeted.

I’d simplify the targeting and start broader — 3–5 strong finance interests at the first tier, with minimal narrowing to avoid over-restricting delivery.
Instead of stacking many filters, I’d rely more on Advantage+ and let the algorithm optimize with enough audience size.
For geography, I’d test nationwide USA first, then duplicate winning ad sets into high-performing states or cities.
Broad areas usually perform better for learning and scaling, while smaller areas are useful for refinement after data appears.
Most importantly, I’d focus on creative testing and lead form optimization, since targeting alone won’t drive performance.

Test broad audiences with minimal layered interests; let algorithm optimize. Segment by state only if performance varies. Avoid over-narrowing; scale budgets on creatives and forms.

Don't test too many targetings.

I was unable to maintain a normal eCPC using more precise targeting. I prefer to work with a broad audience and pay more attention to ads.
