Everyone’s saying keyword research + on-page which is correct, but the missing piece beginners screw up is intent matching

You can do perfect on-page and still go nowhere if the page doesn’t match what Google expects for that query. Before worrying about links, look at the SERP, see what ranks, format + depth + angle, then build something that fits and is slightly better/ Early SEO wins come from not fighting the algorithm, not from tricks.
