We are seeing a competitor appear in hundreds of Google Maps results nationwide for specific key terms.

Almost all of the map pins resolve to physical coordinates where no real business appears to exist.

We need a technical analysis to determine:

  • Whether this visibility is driven by Google Business Profile listings (entity spam / false physical presence)
  • Or whether Google Maps is surfacing these results via another mechanism (e.g., SAB behavior, brand dominance, blended local results, or keyword‑driven entity association)
  • Does this drive actual traffic.

We want to recreate the strategy.

Just to be clear, we want to do the same or similar approach. They have about 500 listings nationwide in the US under google maps but just 1 or 2 GBP listings. Google doesnt seem to care. Its a niche business so they are dominating SEO. We want to compete.

I believe they are creating fake or misrepresented Google Maps listings across hundreds of U.S. cities. Most locations don’t have a real office — they’re placing listings inside unrelated retail stores, restaurants, abandoned buildings, or other non-commercial addresses. They use the same brand and website everywhere to show up in local search and sponsored map results for high-value terms. It’s essentially a nationwide Maps spam / location spoofing strategy to capture search traffic without actual local presence. Impressive. Its been live on google for over a year. I need to recreate it.

This is almost certainly driven by Google Business Profile entities, usually SAB's or loosely validated locations placed at centroid or non-commercial coordinates and supported by citations and brand signals. Google Maps won’t show nationwide pins without an entity anchor, so it's not just organic SEO or brand dominance. These listings do generate real calls and leads, even without physical foot traffic. Recreating it would involve scaled GBP deployment, SAB optimization, geo-signal reinforcement and careful handling of address validation rather than traditional SEO alone.

It sounds like their visibility is likely coming from fake or misrepresented Google Business Profiles, which Google sometimes surfaces if they seem relevant to a query. Other possibilities include keyword-driven entity associations or SAB-style listings. These usually inflate visibility but don’t always drive real traffic. To recreate it, you’d need to analyze their listings, citations, and map behavior carefully while staying compliant to avoid penalties.

Can you do it or you just stating a possible theory?
