Can Monero replace Bitcoin in long term?

Monero only has significance in the market because it's truly anonymous, but Bitcoin has more influence in the overall market.

I think the key takeaway here is that Monero and Bitcoin serve different purposes, and it's unrealistic to expect Monero to replace Bitcoin as a store of value and settlement layer. Instead, Monero's strength lies in its ability to provide true privacy and anonymity, which is becoming increasingly important for users who value their financial freedom. It's interesting to note that while Bitcoin is gaining more institutional and government adoption, Monero is facing regulatory pressure and delistings, which could ultimately limit its mainstream adoption. Do you think there's a way for Monero to balance its privacy focus with the need for greater mainstream acceptance, or will it always be relegated to a niche role?

Bitcoin’s advantage isn’t tech, it’s default acceptance. People choose what they can spend tomorrow, not what is theoretically safer.

And yeah, it’s funny how Monero hype cycle brings the same “BTC killer” talk ;), let’s see where the price is a year from now when the noise cools off.

Yeah but if you know how to move with it, stay under the radar is way more easy to achieve by using monero than bitcoin. On top of that there's a group of exchanges where you can indeed swap monero for something else, if you combine that with the usage of verfied accounts from other people, anti detect browsers and good proxies, you can have a really good cover up for yourself and your tracks
Other people identities, you say?

You know what kind of scumbags deal with monero , do you? You have no moral obligations if someone naive enough to provide his identity or someone who's fullz are out there gets implicated for something real bad?

I don't care too much about monero, it's slow , it requires a lot of precautions outside of the coin transactions themselves and I have zero kyc atms available.

Also you never know if it'll be breached eventually, retrospectively, I prefer to swim with the many and not rely on someone's else's kyc rather than swim with few all of which are too close to drug dealing and cp/pdfs

In my opinion, Monero has the potential to replace Bitcoin in the long term.

Bitcoin is no longer truly anonymous and is subject to strict regulations.

Monero and Zcash are the only major cryptocurrencies that are currently still truly anonymous and can practically never be regulated.

Essentially, Monero is today what Bitcoin was in the 2010s.

What do you think about it?
Bitcoin's adoption, liquidity, and network effect still make it difficult to fully replace it, although Monero could dominate private transactions in the long term.

Initially, there was a lot of buzz around Monero but it couldn't reach anywhere near Bitcoin. Moreover, people still use bitcoin as a synonym to cryptocurrency. So, I doubt if Monero could ever replace Bitcoin.

I believe Monero (XMR) is everything a crypto currency stands for.

If countries can track your transactions you are not truely a crypto currency. People like bitcoin because it is well adopted by majority, but in a few years, governments will know your BTC wallets and see your transactions.

The real usability of crypto currency is privacy. And this one thing will boost the usage of Monero in every dimension. I know this will also be used for many illegal activities in every major level. But Crypto currency - It is what it is.

It won’t, bitcoin is too far ahead of the rest of the market in terms of adoption. Also most govs seem to be trying to make exchanges remove support for xmr.

I think Monero has real long term potential. Bitcoin isn’t truly anonymous anymore and is heavily regulated. Coins like Monero (and to some extent Zcash) still offer real privacy, which makes Monero feel a bit like what Bitcoin was back in the early days. Curious what others think.

No. Bitcoin is digital gold for store of value. Monero is for privacy. They serve different purposes.

monero definitely solves the privacy gap btc left behind. but replacing btc? nah will never happen

Unlikely, Monero may stay strong as a privacy coin, but Bitcoin’s brand, adoption, and institutional trust make it hard to replace long term.

It can't happen. Monero only brings solid solution to privacy matters. Bitcoin has the biggest influence in the crypto market.
