Found my keywords. what about my competitors?

Hey BlackHats!

So let me start of by saying that I am NOT trying to make money with this project. This is just for fun!

Basically I have a few friends that's are good at coding and were planning on making our own private server for a game ( MapleStory)

The reason I'm asking for help is because my keywords are obvious "maplestory private server" and according to Google there's about 500,000 results (which isn't a lot)

And theres really good amount of traffic BUT HERES MY QUESTION!

What do I need to rank first on google for my keywords?
( I know I need backlinks, but I mean how many do I need to beat my competitors?)
NOTE: I will be buying a BRAND new domain, and I am planning on buying verified xrumer links from members off of this forum ( should I ping them right away?

-BTW I tried downloading Market Samurai and SEO Powersuite but I had no idea on how to use it for gaining knowledge about competition.

MS has a competitors section, input the keyword hit analyze and you can see the PR, incoming links, etc. Look at your competitors links and always go for "match and exceed". If they are social bookmarking, do it, if they are article submitting, do it. Do whatever they are doing and more. Also make sure the niche isnt too competitive (if all top 10 sites have lets say pr4 and 10000+ links you will have an uphill battle)

Alright, I thing I screwed up when I was installing Market Samurai.

Another question:

Do I have to beat the page that is number 1 on google or the whole entire website?

you have to beat the page, have to consider also that the page might get a little help from the domain authority itself. In general pages rank and that's why you can have two different pages on your website ranking in different position for the same keyword.

Update: I got Marker Samurai to work! ( Still trying to figure it out, never used SEO software)
I will provide a SS below, based on the SS provided what do you think I need to do in order to rank 1st?

It will be hard to outrank those first two (same domain - gtop100.com) since it's good domain age - 5 years and PR 3 and 4.

Analyze the anchor text for the backlinks for the first two (page backlinks first). After that check for PR of backlinks, they might just be 1000s of PR0 which will be hard, but not impossible. If it's well established & high PR backlinks (in that volume, or 1/24th) than you're screwed.

Well... personally, I think you have a tough job ranking #1 with a new domain. I would start by buying a SMALL xrumer blast. That will bring you up in the rankings fairly quickly. Then get about 300 blog commenting links (DF).

I would then have someone do a blast to a bunch of bookmarking sites... and you'll be on your way without spending over $50.

That sure won't get you to #1 but it will give you a good base to work from and a good position in the SERPS pretty quickly.

Of course... you MAY have a temporary sandbox issue to deal with... but you never know. Following a pattern like the above, you may just avoid it.

Since its for "fun" as you say, look at it as a long-term project and a learning experience.

And then use a that Pinger tool? Will that give me 2k backlinks instantly and put me on first page?

(I'm kind of low budget)

I would personally suggest you get some PR5 backlinks to start with, that will increase your relevance of the site and all you'll need will be popularity (i've done some heavy SEO reading these days). Also those blast for 15$ would give you some PR0 backlinks, you need heavy link juice. I would also suggest a small blast.

All this on a new domain would be ok? Is a 50k blast good enough, and should I try to ping all of the links?

For the PR5 links, are those something like where I leave a comment on a site with a link to my site OR do I have to contact a webmaster?

This keyword is pretty hard to rank for. High PR and high BLP/BLD as well as the old DA of the other sites makes it hard. Try finding an easier keyword, or be prepared to spend a couple grand getting ranked.

Mehh a couple grand sounds a bit over exaggerated.....

But could someone answer my previous question?

Well if you are commenting, use your anchor text as a name, I don't have quite an experience in contacting webmasters, but for a tryout contact PR5+ webmasters and see what responses you get.

Not using wordpress only means more manual onsite SEO, also when you do changes, most of the time ping the site yourself (wordpress has this build in).

You can create premium accounts, or you could make reservations or something. Offer a Premium package for a price (2-3$ something symbolic) and with that kind of traffic it might make you some good buck to keep it running (not becoming a moneymaker).

I would recomment that you purchase a blog commenting blast since from blogs you would get the backlinks in 2-3days indexed. Profile backlinks might take a while. If it's something popular (I don't know the game) make some facebook promotion. That's later though, after you are done SEO.

If you don't know for what you should spend it, keep it. Start doing what you are supposed to be doing and when something requires money, you'll have 9$ - wow that's too low. Do some fiverr work to get better $$$ if you want to rank high.
