As the title says - I'm new to Youtube, and am wondering how much the description and hashtags put in the description matter?

Outside of a good title and thumbnail, what are the most important aspects of organic growth?

Depending on what you’re building, a description is essential, while hashtags are optional and mainly serve to boost visibility rather than directly build link

Its multiple factors thing. If your channel is new, its good to use keyword based description and tags. Plus engage with niche based channels and videos only. It will help the algo to pick and show your videos to the right audience.

making comments on other social apps group can generate more engagements.

Thank you guys for the info! I'm in the music niche - 1 channel for my guitar playing and 1 for my music production - fwiw.

What's the best way to research the keywords?

This. will help your video to rank in big influencer's side then might be your video goes viral on shorts feed if you post short's

On YouTube, the most important thing is the thumbnail, followed by the title. Hashtags are mainly used for categorization. The video ranking system doesn’t work the same way on YouTube. YouTube pushes your video for a short period of time, and if it gets good engagement from viewers, it pushes it again. Otherwise, the video dies and doesn’t reach the intended views.

Description SEO-friendly, hashtags have little impact; real growth comes from strong thumbnail-titles, more watch time and engagement.

Can't you describe what your video is? Or at least give it a title ?
My long form will be music videos for my songs, or guitar play throughs. Short form will be things like cool riffs, melodies, etc. Not sure how I want the content to look yet; I feel that part is slightly hard for music when using a DAW since it's just a program on a computer, but obviously easier for guitar as you can show yourself playing.

Descriptions and hashtags can help, but getting clicks and keeping viewers is what really grows your channel.

They matter, but only to a point. Descriptions help platforms understand context and intent, while hashtags help with initial discovery especially on social platforms. Neither can carry weak content, but both can amplify good content when used naturally and sparingly.

I think the description and hashtags are only important for new channels, so yes, they would help the algorithm relate to the content. But personally, I believe a good title, thumbnail and the content itself are more important. Currently, the main goal is to have good retention on your content.

Good content matters the most. You should focus on it first.

Using one main hashtag in title is important as seen at review tech USA recent uploads also description is even more important.

Descriptions help click-through rates, not rankings. Hashtags on some platforms can help with discovery, but on Google? Zero.
In traffic sources under Hashtags section you can see some traffic comes from hashtags but more importantly it gives a sign of relevancy for the google search engine

Descriptions and hashtags help, but they’re minor factors. Organic YouTube growth mainly depends on strong titles/thumbnails (CTR), high watch time, audience retention, and engagement, if people click and keep watching, YouTube promotes the video.

Description helps a bit for context but wont save a bad video. Hashtags barely matter now
Watch time and CTR move the needle way more

It is essential to add SEO optimization, write the video title correctly, add hashtags, and write keywords. All of this will help promote your video in the search bar and get traffic from there. This must be done.
