How come if we add 12 to 40 the result is exactly is the double opposed to when we take absolute value of the difference of them.

I don't know what the "absolute value" means, but the difference of 12 and 40 is 28, not 26 which is the half of 12+40. So, your question doesn't have a correct answer (unless the absolute value is indeed 26)...

Also, what's with these weird threads? Are you trying to up your post count or are you just trying to entertain us? :)

Fortunately, posts on Black Hat Lounge don't increase the number of posts on your profile. Perhaps it's a way to boost engagement (reaction score) , but I've seen several of those strange threads and it doesn't seem to work very well.

So let's assume, entertainment...

I know... and for a moment I was inclined to tell him this, but I wasn't really in the mood...

So let's assume, entertainment...
for his own protection :)

these young lads... (as an aging man) I envy them :)

Seems like the two of you wholeheartedly believe this. Must be brutal seeing through those lenses.
you made 2 posts that normal people consider spam, which can get you into trouble since spammers are typically not liked. That's why I said that for your own good I hope that you're trying to be entertaining, because if you weren't being entertaining the other option was being spammer, which means you would get cautioned / banned quickly. Tell me that I'm wrong in my assessment of your posts, but without being sarcastic this time

12 + 40 is 52

40 -12 is 28

52 / 2 = 26 (not 28)

28 x 2 = 56 (not 52)

Am I missing something or is the question factually wrong?
I got the exact same results, which is why I said that - unless the "absolute value" means 26 - his question doesn't have a correct answer. But instead of enlightening us / telling us what the deal with this thread is, he got triggered that I said "I hope that - for your own good - you are trying to be entertaining". People are weird... and interesting too, but weird mostly :)

The difference (28) tells you how much larger 40 is than 12.
The sum (52) tells you the total size when you combine them.

Yeah, first and foremost weird. But how you will entertain THOSE guys, that's another story!
whatever you say, man...

Just tell me what the point of this math question was. And what's the answer to it?
