Finally after a month, my EMD local site started to picking up.

I created an EMD site in a local SEO niche and within just a month it is started to showing up in local searches.

My site does show on the 1st page for "location seo company", "location search engine optimization."

I just did the onpage for the website and created web2.0 and citations backlinks for this website and also did the review on trustpilot.

listed myself on DesignRush, Clutch, and other big listings to give credibility to my domain.

Now let's see how soon we get an actual lead from this domain.

Let me know if you guys have any questions!

EMD works really well in the local niche. Add one or two relevant guest posts, niche edits and then fire some PBNs to see excellent results. Always remember EMDs need fewer links to outrank branded domains.

EMDs worked for years and then were killed with the EMD update in, when was it.. 2012?

They were too powerful in the days when google was keyword based.

You could use EMDs to rank KEYWORDS. Ie, you could create "bestblacktoaster.com" and rank easily for "best black toaster".

Then, google changed how they rank. The HCU, helpful content update, everyone currently thinks was a penalty-based update like penguin. Wrong. It was a fundamental shift in how google ranks pages. They literally changed their entire algorithm and no one noticed. (Except me, and only recently after months of deep research)

The HCU, or the shift if how they rank was because of PAA sites and AI content destroying the internet.

They went from ranking search terms, matched with user intent to pages.

To matching search terms to an ideal page embedding, and seeing how close each page is to the ideal embedding. (They also have a negative embedding for spam.)

Every core update is when they readjust the ideal page embedding(based on user data)

Each spam update is where they readjust the "ideal" spam site embedding for a site topic(I'm not 100% sure the mechanics of how they do it, but if your site is close to a spammy site in your niche in vector space, you get hit and drop)

A consequence of this change, is that certain types of EMDs became powerful again.

You absolutely cannot go and register bestblacktoaster.com and rank for best black toaster. doesn't work.

You can go and register lasvegastoasterrepair.com and rank for everything related to repairing toasters in las vegas.

Why?

Because it's not a keyword.

It's a topic. toaster repair is a topic. Toaster repair in las vegas is a topic tied to a location.

Remember the google leak?

2 metrics..

SiteRadius and SiteFocus.

SiteFocus is the key. Domain name used to be a big ranking metric tied to keywords. Now it's a big ranking metric tied to the site focus. If your domain is lasvegastoasterrepair.com, you are very clearly focused on toaster repairs in las vegas. This is a TIGHT site focus. A specialisation.

It's not spam. It's real. You can't go writing about car mechanics in florida on that domain, can you? Google knows straight away what the site focus should be.

SiteRadius is CLEARLY an embedding. Radius? Come on. That's vector space 101. Everything they do now is vector space.

k-means clustering or another approach..

That right there is SiteRadius and SiteFocus.

Radius is each page, how close it is to the centre. Focus is how tight the group is.

This is basic machine learning.

And the domain name will be embedded with other parts, so it's a big part of the embedding. That's why the EMD above will rank easily, because it moves the embedding close to the ideal embedding in vector space for the search queries he wants to rank for.

Question is how much is the contribution of domain being an EMD ?

For less competition keywords, it might work. But only having emd for hard keywords will not rank you.

can still have some impact on search engine rankings, particularly for niche keywords, but their effectiveness has diminished as search engines have improved their algorithms to prioritize content quality and relevance over domain names.

Did you purchase EMD as normal .com registration cost ?

This looks very cool, how much you bought the domain for?
Did you purchase EMD as normal .com registration cost ?
I paid the normal $10 or $11 fee for this domain.

I would add guest posts at some time to boost its ranking for other relevant terms.
Great start, how many pages does your website have?
4 service pages, about us, contact us, and that's it.
You could use EMDs to rank KEYWORDS. Ie, you could create "bestblacktoaster.com" and rank easily for "best black toaster".
The thing is, i am still not ranking for my main keyword. If my keyword is "Dallas SEO", i am not ranking for it till now, but my site does show up for "Dallas seo company". That's the thing I am still working on. Maybe I need some backlinks to support it for my main keyword.
I always said that EMD still works just fine in local ranking. But this method doesn't last long. But your ROI will definitely not be bad as well.
Yeah, but I haven't invested much in it, so let's see how many leads i get from it.

What does that mean? It is an exact match domain.

Yeah, you can't but i also have seen a site ranking with EMD for personal injury lawyer but they did the very good job with it. They even got backlinks from Forbes for their EMD.
Good work.
Thank you.

It just mostly works on low competition keywords now.

Yeah they have, but if the competition is low, you can work with them.

Backlinks don't really support your keyword. That's not their purpose. They just send juice in. Think of it like plugging in a battery to a circuit.

But it's normal and good you're ranking for the longer tails. The emd supports easier ranking of the longtails like that.

It's also normal to rank for longtails FIRST. You won't just rank for a broad keyword. You rank for longtails, and over time can establish on the broad if your engagement is good and also if the page itself is a strong match. In most cases, it's not.

How did you find the emd domain did you use Amy tool?
I just did the location analysis. I saw that the competition was low, and I might rank there with EMD, so I did. I added the location and SEO to the domain, and it was available in Namecheap.

I'm glad to know EMD still works for local niches in big 2025 because I'm looking at trying micro-niche blogging in 2026.

It is laughable how much it works for local results and low comp
