Hi, Apologies if this is the wrong forum to ask this. I’m new to Meta Ads and currently running sales campaigns for my perfume and soap business in India.
At the ad set level, I’ve set the message destination to Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, since that’s where I connect with customers and take orders. The campaign uses the Highest Volume bid strategy with the performance goal set to maximize the number of conversations, and there’s no cost cap.
I’m running two campaigns with the same setup but slightly different targeting:
Each campaign includes 4 image ads and 1 video ad showing clear product images, offers, USPs, and a call-to-action.
The issue is that almost all the messages I receive are spam or irrelevant. Most are from agencies offering to “boost my sales,” or people who don’t even know why they reached out.
When users click on my ad in facebook/instagram they land on my WhatsApp or Messenger, they get an automated greeting that explains the current offer and asks if they want to place an order or have a query. But the responses I get are things like “How did you get my number?” or “We can help you sell on Amazon.” I haven’t received a single genuine enquiry yet. i am not using any plugins for automated messages, this is the meta's chat builder feature.
Another strange thing is that, even though I’ve explicitly selected Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp as message destinations, I’m also getting messages on Instagram, and they’re being counted as “conversations” in the Meta Ads dashboard. Could this be happening because my Facebook Page is linked to my Instagram account?
It’s quite demotivating, and I’m trying to understand what’s going wrong. Any guidance would be appreciated.

- Campaign 1: Targets people interested in cosmetics, fragrances, and beauty, with the “Engaged Shoppers” behavior.
- Campaign 2: Targets only the “Engaged Shoppers” behavior.
