For internal linking, placement really matters, mate. I usually target pages with consistent impressions, not dead content. Google picks up those internal changes much faster.

Haha, that's right. Traffic pages are the gold spots. It takes a bit more digging, but when you land an edit on a page pulling consistent organic traffic, the results flow much faster.

I’ve seen edits on off topic pages tank instead of help, so relevance really is everything @RankFoundry.

That's the best part of niche edits. If the page is getting traffic, then you should probably get links from there.
