My country is broke, corrupt, war-torn...

The problems you are listing for the U.S. are kinda silly bro. I mean you are really so pissed off that we have TV shows about OCD, weight loss, and don't do much about another countries starvation problems that you want to leave? If things like that agitate you then prepare yourself for a very stressful life in ANY country you live in.

I would give all my wealth away if it means I could live in the US.

I don't know why you take things for granted, US is awesome man.

and I HAVE been to the projects in NYC and it's at least 4x nicer than the slumps here.

They are right, I'm mexican, and I'm starting out trying to get the monies to get out of here. Here small-medium merchants and entrerpenerus are kindnap everyday for ransom, and I know some of the people by peers that had been kidnap. Most people are poor over here, don't come here if you are over capitalize because it sucks, I'm trying to capitalize myself bootstrapping from my IM efforts. Jobs here do suck even if you have bachelors degree and a certification as I do.

So if you make good cash, expect to be kidnap, and even if they pay for your ransom expect to not return. Expect to pay for corruption and the mafia if you have a business or expect to get disappear. I want to get out and I'm middle class. There are not opportunities to get out of the hole and the violence is getting worse.

Shootings and killings are common everday because of the drug wars. I want to get out of here, you are so damn lucky if you are from a first world. If you don't like US, cool you can go to Canada or UK. But I just want an opportunity, you know you go to US and can work at McDonalds minimum wage and make more than $1k a month and you can grow your internet business faster if you know what you are doing.

Here is Mexico you have really good college education, masters and everything and expect max to make $600-$700 a month tops. It sucks. If you are planning to move to Mexico you are a down right [put the best word here].

The US isn't perfect, but you Americans don't have any close idea the difference of living of a 1st world country and a 3rd world country. So damn big difference.

Any Mexicans here, I hope they can join me with the efforts so we can move out of this country ASAP!

I hope you can get a more clearer picture.

I hear people from the U.S. say these things all of the time. "Our country is fucked up" or "You know what is wrong with our country?" I live in Canada and people here say the same and do you know what my answer to them is? If you don't like it then go somewhere else. There are so many other countries that have it so much worse. I am personally glad to be living in Canada and so should people from the U.S. We are free, we are protected, and we can be whatever we want to be.

Amen brother.

By the way when I read the title of your post I thought that you were living in Afghanistan. You need to be thankful for what you have and I am sure that there are millions of people that would switch places with you in a heartbeat.

Don't know what you got 'til it's gone.

you think US is fucked up? Canada is just as bad. Specially in Toronto/Ontario, useless politicians/government and public transit with technologies dated back 1000 years ago when everyone's using some sort of smart card system. They still use tokens and have human collectors collectoing tokens and don't even get me started on the stupid unions. They bring no good but to themselves.

Everywhere you go, you have to deal with that country's shit. No escape, this is life.

People in the US wanna get out. People outside the US wanna get in. Everyone always
thinks the grass is greener on the side of the tracks.

The US has plenty of problems and it's easy to think "shit has to be better elsewhere".
Coming from someone who travels a lot and has seen the other side of the tracks in many
countries.. they all have the same types of problems that we deal with the US, and in
many cases, much worse ones too.

I wish the Us had some policy of swapping citizens "though that sounds unrealistic".

Come to Canada. It's the shit.

Buddy every country has its problems.

Even though you may feel that your country is heading towards doom, remember that is still better that most countries.

In the country where I am from, most people would be grateful for the things and amenities that you take for granted like clean potable water, uninterrupted power, good roads, corruptionless bureaucracy...

I am not saying that you shouldn't look at flaws in your country.. I am saying that you should visit a war torn or third world country and then probably you will appreciate what Uncle Sam provides you

I think many of you are misunderstanding the thread. I just can't stand the beauracracy here. Some things have opened up for me.

Upon further thoughts, I wanna help others. I don't want to be known as an American, exclusively, but rather a "worldian." Sounds stupid, probably even kiddish I know, but that's the only way I can explain it. I actually wanna do something that helps ALOT of other people that NEED it.

I want to help people meet basic needs such as nutrition and provide vaccinations for diseases/sicknesses we already have cures for. I want to be next to Warren Buffett, and Bill Gates giving billions away to help those who need. I want to die knowing that I legitly helped people live.

I guess for now I'll keep trucking along and finance the rest of my college, have startup capital for a business, get rich, then make a difference. Gotta take it one step at a time. :)

LOL Mexico is 1000X worse then the USA right now....Don't you watch the news?

The US is crumbling just like the Roman Empire did over 1500 years ago. Barbarians invading from the outside, getting too big for our britches, feeling God's wrath. You name it. This cesspool of corruption and greed will be punished for what it's done. I am an American and I am not proud of my country. God save us.

Mate, if you complain about living in US, wait to get to some really fucked up place. There are countries that are by far better than US when it comes to quality of life, but if you want opportunities, there's nothing better. Just think about the fact that even people with absolutely stupid ideas make money in US. Why? Because it's a fucking $14 trillion economy that's why. Go to a smaller country (not poor or 3rd world, just small) and you will quickly see even good ideas are difficult to implement there.

I feel you on that, it's frustrating when theres so many wealthy people who do absolutely nothing to help others, while some of us want to but can't afford to. Seems the people who want to help others can't, and the ones who can don't.

Can't afford? If you can afford to have a computer, then you surely can afford some financial donations. Probably a lot more than you would care to admit.

The OP is a perfect example of being more academic than educated.

Save your mommy and daddy's money, see the world and get a real education.

There aren't enough statistics to hide your ignorance or ungratefulness behind.

I have been in some of the worst places in the world at their worst times (Afghanistan, Bosnia, currently writing from Iraq for the 2nd time) and fantastic places throughout Europe and South America. As many others in posts above mine are trying to tell you, you have it pretty damned good.

Be grateful, quit your whining, and be a part of the solutions rather than running from the challenges.

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Mahatma Gandhi

You may get a job as a police officer in Mexico.

My guess is that the northern area must be hiring on a regular basis and cost of living is low. So if you can't fight corruption why not be part of it.
i hope, you're just kiddin buddy or you don't watch the news...
it's almost a surefire way to get yourself a coffin in no time

and OP you started this whole Mexico thing with your thread starter post :p
i never want to live in a country where human life's so cheap, where you may live like a king but till when?! that's what does matter
moreover if you will have a family (i guess you plan it), i don't think you'd like to worry about your kids get kidnapped on the way they coming home from school (even if you spend a good amount on bodyguards)

and i have to agree what jstover77 said above:
College always illuminates social discourse. This is the point. They want you to become more self aware of your surroundings. Just try not to drink the kool aid all the time.

As you get older and have a family, your views will change. You will begin to worry less about things that are almost or completely out of your control, and appreciate what you have, and what is in front of you.
these are exactly my thoughts as well, so if you want to make a "revolution" do it now, because you'll get older and this flame will most likely die out...

I always wonder why US has become devoloped and Hispanic countries and Brazil are not that much and are marred by all those problems.Just imagine if you'd a superpower from Latin America, then we'd all be speaking in spanish right now which I would've loved to have happen. But partly America has been responsible for Latin American countries Drug problems or else we would have had a country like US from Latin America, who knows. But the world is always dominated by the USA-UK english alliance which I don't understand why is it happening.

Your comments remind me of a Winston Churchill quote, "The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter."

Your problem with the US is not the country but the people and your beef with the people is they are not going think and act exactly the way you. You really think if everybody thought like you this would be a better world, which is also socialist thinking by the way.

Well welcome to earth! They're not going to think and act like you and even if they did I'm sure you have done some fucked up things in your life that the others would shake their head at.

I know because I had the same immature attitude when I was younger. Wow Mexico is so great I guess that's why all the immigrants to the US are from there. How stupid is that thinking? It's just more of "anyplace but here" thinking.

Really if you think Mexico is better go knock your socks off and head down there! The US will always have problems because it is capitalist and a democracy but if you want a taste of true corruption then Mexico is just what the doctor ordered! And guess what Sunshine when a cartel member sticks a gun in your face you will be begging for some good old-fashioned American law and order. Frankly, if you can't make a living in the US you're not making it elsewhere.

I think you just need to mature and find out what really makes you happy instead of saying life sucks. Life has always sucked, always will unless you change your attitude rather than hoping to change the outlook of every other person in the world. Frankly, it's a lot easier to change your attitude. This is my two cents from having lived in your shoes some twenty years ago. Moreover, I'm glad my parents immigrated to this country and believe I'm no flag waver but a grounded realist.
