Future of Telegram

I see a lot of people using Telegram, but a large portion of them don't get the most out of it; they just watch the news and little else.

Aside from crypto-bros and the like...

Do you think it has a future for regular users? Do they use WhatsApp or Instagram every day, for example?

Since it has countless options, from bots for restaurants, for example, and I see that this niche is untapped because "regular" users either don't like it or don't have the knowledge.

You’re right, most people just use Telegram for chats or news and miss out on its features. It could grow with regular users, but only if bots and tools become simple and easy to use, otherwise people stick to WhatsApp or Instagram.

Telegram has long been used primarily for community management in areas such as crypto/stock exchange. I don't think that will change.

The core issue is user effort. WhatsApp and Instagram became giants because they're dead simple for their primary use. Telegram has a ton of powerful features, but most regular users just want to chat and follow channels without learning a new ecosystem. Unless the advanced features become seamlessly integrated and super easy to discover or offer an undeniable, immediate benefit that outweighs the learning curve, they'll remain niche for the average person. Most won't switch from dedicated apps like food delivery for a Telegram bot if it's not simpler or faster.

I’ve noticed most people use Telegram only for news channels or crypto groups, but it has so much more potential — bots, communities, automation, even tools for local businesses. Telegram apps/bots are something unique and I think it has a lot of potential. I've been actively using telegram for the past 5 years now and it's only getting better and better

Telegram actually has a lot of useful features. You can create bots that are useful for everyday tasks, and you can customize any notifications for your personal needs. In Russia, the number of Telegram users only recently surpassed the number of WhatsApp users, reaching around 80 million. This means people use both messengers simultaneously. Although, in my opinion, Telegram has far more convenient features.

However, there are some points that indicate WhatsApp is safer to use. The number of software options that allow for the convenient use of multiple Telegram accounts simultaneously speaks volumes.

I think Telegram has a lot of potential for regular users, but many stick to WhatsApp or Instagram out of habit. The platform’s features—bots, channels, groups—are underused by most, which does leave opportunities for niche content and services if people learn how to use them effectively.

I believe telegram is one of the easiest platform to create an account and interact in it. I personally preffer instead of whatsapp or facebook as it give me the idea of more secure communication , easy to work with

I completely agree that Telegram is a powerful platform with many features; however, I think it won't be very popular with the average user. Their adoption of a new platform will depend heavily on their exploration efforts, or use mainly for messaging or reading news; there are already millions of platforms that satisfy those needs.

Telegram is like an always evolving "ecosystem" where messaging is just like an entry point. WhatsApp remains dominant for our daily communication.
Telegram has lightweight websites that run inside Telegram (Mini Apps) and allows users to buy, book services, etc.
For a local restaurant, a Telegram bot can be 30-50% cheaper to run than a traditional app or dedicated support staff.
But, unless that local restaurant specifically promotes its Telegram bot via a QR code or link, a casual user will not know it exists.
But, as of now, people feel Telegram is overwhelming compared to the simple interface of WhatsApp. I feel Telegram usage will increase in the coming years, as more people would seek better privacy.

I don't think it has such a bright users since it doesn't have such a big audience like facebook or instagram. Also most of the people there are trying to earn crypto through telegram's crypto games and don't interact that much with other users.

whatsapp , discord , telegram - all valuable tools.

no reason to not be on all three

good things about discord is the whole communities, groups, etc ... whatsapp has a privacy concern because you HAVE to give people your number
