So, my like website, was receiving tons of traffic until recently. Now if you click the like button for any content, it shows up in your news feed like it usually would, except none of it actually links to anything. Now the whole point of these sites is to have your links show up on their profile, is it not?

I thought my facebook application ID was banned, so I made a new one and replaced it. Still same thing. I made a new page on the same domain, this time using the iframe like button code, instead of the fbml code. And I had the same issue.

Facebook developer forum was useless as usual, I saw people with the same mistakes. I emailed facebook support, and this is what I get:

Hi,

The Like button is designed to make your website more social and allow users to share substantive content with their friends. Websites without content will still be able to implement the Like button, but the resulting story will not result in a link to the website, as user behavior indicates they are liking a concept rather than substantive content on a website.

A few popular websites have had this happen to them. I've replied asking them to restore it, etc. Let's see how things work out...

could some one confirm that ?

i also noticed decrease in my traffic but if you are right , i should not get any traffic from facebook at all.

Facebook are turning into huge dicks. But I just went on a friends profile and they have liked something on "liking it!" and I can click that and it takes me to the website.

Maybe people are just becoming less interested now?

Personally i never really liked the "like it" websites from a facebook user point of view i just found them annoying, but from a internet markters point of view i thought they where quite clever and different from other facebook marketing methods.

So i can see why people might start getting annoyed with them, or just less interested. (hence why facebook are being dicks lol )

anyone familiar with Like sites please PM me , id want an advice about purchasing one.

If your talking about those stupid websites that you can like everything in the world and more then yeah those are pretty useless/stupid no offense, but websites with like buttons on them and stuff won't ever die lol...are you on drugs OP? wasn't the entire reason why they released it was to have a like button on every website on the planet? ....hmmm, if your not getting traffic, make something new....everyone and there mothers expect their method to last 15 years on facebook and they expect to get 50k clicks a day forever....not the way it works...welcome to 2010 were people loose interest within 30seconds, also people aren't going to click on stupid crap...Trust me I've had pages getting 2k+ likes an hour then all of a sudden the traffic stops 90% and nothing is wrong...why? because no ones interested in it anymore, I make a new page...and re-rape then rinse and repeat ;)

Not too hard to understand. Sounds like they banned your domain name, nothing more.

The problem is not losing traffic simply because the site is crappy (I used to get 30,000 uniques and more daily)

When you press like, the news feed items no longer link to my website. For some websites this still works, but for others, nope. I don't think it'll be long until most of these sites are gone.

They didn't ban my domain. If they did, I wouldn't be able to like it, and an error message would appear on the like button. And it did not.

This really sucks, especially since mine was one of the first of these sites, that I had coded by hand. Looks like the shitty premade ones are still fine as of now.

When they ban your domain name you get a red "Error" next to the like button after you click it (or it just happens after a few seconds) and if you click the error, it tells you that your domain was banned from abuse reports.

I've had a couple of domain names where this did not happen, the links would just not show up in posts.

This has happened to mine too, both were 50,000uv's a day sites.

Shittt.

How are you contacting facebook? Mine is connected to a proper app, which now isn't running because of this 'link disabled' shit.

those sites are great way to gather up traffic
i personally have one of my own but its not generating as much traffic as i thought
primarily because i think theres so many of them however mine is unique from others so i dont see why it wouldnt generate traffic

Whats the goal of generating traffic if people are coming only to see your crappy website?

Why isn't there any 'I Hate' on FaceBook? That's what I would like to know.

It is a very fascist organisation FaceBook; they only allow you to like stuff.

What most of you don't seem to get is that my site was the FIRST of these websites. Before a script for this was released, and before everyone and their dog owned one of these sites, I was getting tons of traffic daily because pretty much, my site was the only one of these that existed for a short time.

Anyways, regardless of what you think (not that it matters) I made this post as a warning to whoever does own a site like this. I know a lot of people here do, so I felt it would be useful. Don't have anything useful to say? Then fuck off.

hmmmm... and i only just started looking into this recently....

im sure there will be a work around.

i've noticed the same thing happen to me on one domain.
