Absolutely, revisiting old backlinks is part of my regular SEO hygiene routine. Here’s why I do it:
- Link Rot: Some links disappear or get redirected—better to catch them early and replace if needed.
- Content Refresh: If the referring page has updated or lost relevance, I try to suggest edits or move the link elsewhere.
- Anchor Optimization: Occasionally I tweak anchor text to improve context and keyword alignment.
- Link Reclamation: I’ve recovered a bunch of backlinks just by reaching out when pages go 404 or switch domains.
It’s time-consuming, but I do a backlink audit every few months using Ahrefs + manual checking. Not all links need edits, but the few you update can make a surprising difference in long-term rankings and referral traffic.
Anyone else have a system for this?
