for me it's dead, and I don't care about other people's opinions, and I won't be convinced otherwise either

As said earlier and in other threads, SEO is dead only for those who don't know how to do it.
Before, it was just a copy and paste job to build backlinks, stuff keywords but now you need to be precise, smart and skilful to rank webpages.

I think yes we should think about it being dead. Its just reinvented under a new name if it is. The same ideas is required to be included in chat bots. Also if you think about it. If you have a web presence of any kind. The first and only thing you want to do is be found. For this requires a search. Either by a google bot, or a chatgpt bot reading and searching your site for information.
Whoops I think I persuaded myself that SEO will never die as long as there are people building search engines or chat bots to scrape the web. lol (I should know better never to argue with myself! lol I always lose! hahaha)

As long as there are metrics that search algorithms use to identify what is 'good' to show for a query, and these metrics can be affected by outside influence (us), then there will always be something to optimise for search engines.

Imo everyone in that space is trying to sell courses and ebooks, now by the looks of it SEO has changed, so i'd expect an influx of new courses/ebook threads, gl for any beginners trying to learn about it, hopefully its now really easy and simple

If truly said, those e-books and courses provide you with nothing. Everyone on Facebook ads are selling their digital marketing courses, but they haven't even reach to the right audience.
They just collect user data by doing this and if someone buys the course, then in the end of the course, they offer different courses and the information they provide in the course will be easily available on the web.
I am saying all this because I tested some courses just to know what they are offering but got nothing. Not saying this for all but mostly doing the same.

SEO people are fine, they just don't wanna give out their bread and butter. They still give out a lot of valuable advice.
The worst people are billionaires who write books with advice "work harder" and take money for it, sometimes a lot. These are real bastards.

my childhood hobby, which I'll keep private, but it's got nothing to do with SEO.... or even with making money online actually, it's just a dream I've had since a young kid
EDIT: I think you were referring to making money, though. In this case I'm doing nothing, I have a small stream of income which I life off of, and I also moved to the countryside where there aren't a lot of taxes (yet) that need to be paid. Also there is some food to come by via gardening, farming, etc...

I've never cared much about cars (I'm not tech-inclined, computers are the only thing that get a pass from me and that's because I grew up with them, for 40 years), so thanks, for me this is a success indeed
sure, let's be honest: that's what YOU would rather have, not me. Like I said, I never cared about technology in general (and about vehicles in particular, which is part of the reason for which I've let my driving license expire in 2021 and I don't intend to ever renew it) besides the PCs (and not even consoles I don't like, even though I do like video games)....
This being said, I don't dismiss the importance of technology, I would be a total hypocrite to say this when I myself can't live without it
... But tractors are not my thing. Even if they do make work easier (and they do), I'd rather someone else drive them, and I just walk behind the tractor and do the easy, leftover stuff rather than drive the tractor myself.Pickup trucks are not my thing. I'm not American, so I don't have cravings for big stuff like many USA citizens do. Small is almost always better
much respect! Like most companies (at least the big ones), Google have become the villain. When they've started out in 1999 and up until late 2000s I'd say they have been amazing, I kept recommending them left and right because they've deserved it because their goal back then had been to serve good results to people, they've not been heavily into data mining, forcing behavioural changes and political agenda upon people, total surveillance and technological totalitarianism and all of this crap that plagues our society nowadays.
Back then they genuinely cared about users (or at least that's what I felt) and they didn't force everyone to have the same template of site (business-oriented one), there was huge diversity and coolness in the SERPs in every niche and for almost every keyword, and I felt like little guys and lazy bums like myself could succeed too, which is what had actually gotten me into SEO back in 2008. I genuinely did see potential in using google to make money online, and I genuinely made some easy, passive income between mid-2009 and up until 2011-early 2012. And then things got worse and worse... and worse... and... then the AI came and put an end to everything that worked well. Bleah....
Anyway, kudos to you for not wanting to side with this evil company. Hopefully more people will wake up to the reality (well, the one that I'm seeing and experiencing, I am pretty sure that not everyone is seeing the same things as I do, but one can only hope...)
