I moved away from linking exclusively to the homepage a while back. These days, I focus more on building links to inner pages, especially the ones that directly drive revenue (like product/service pages) or valuable pages that could use a visibility boost.

Don’t get me wrong, homepage links still have their place. They’re great for strengthening overall domain authority and brand credibility. But if you’re aiming for real, measurable results in rankings and traffic, you need a balanced approach.

What I’ve found most effective is mixing homepage and inner page links strategically. Pair that with smart anchor text selection tailored to the target page’s intent, and you start seeing solid improvements—not just in rankings, but in overall SEO performance.

Many of you already might knew or even doing this. Would love to hear your perspective on this! Let's discuss.

Yeah, focusing on both the Homepage and inner pages is a crucial way of building authority and RD for the site.

The first method to balance this is to make good interlinking between the sites is important. For example, if you focus 70% on innerpage product/service pages and 30% on the homepage means then you have to do proper interlinking in the inner pages to the homepages

So, build links with more tricks to get link juice equally for all the pages, then only you can get the average bounce rate, or else it will get higher

Now? Nah. In the early days, when establishing the domain in its entirety, linking the homepage made more sense. Now it's pretty established within the niche, and I'll use backlinks to shore up pillar content. It seems to be working well.

Website type determines the kind of links you'll get naturally. If you have a business site, you're very likely going to get homepage links naturally. If you have a purely blog style website, you're more likely to get links to your post naturally because they are the most useful to users.

I follow that when building links. But I never completely stop building links to the homepage irrespective of website.

not important using homepage link on guest post but this strengthen the time of traffics, using internal/direct pointing link on quote topic can give chances on knowing the mind of traffics with they engagements on other post which wasn't direct to them.

You're absolutely right — it’s not “either/or” but how and where you use each that defines success. A mixed, intent-aligned backlink strategy is the only way to sustain rankings in 2025’s SEO landscape.
When pushing heavy inner-page anchors, I sometimes rotate in homepage links with branded/generic anchors in other posts to: Avoid pattern detection
Soften the backlink profile, Build brand trust signals.

My Ratio (Typical Campaign): 60–70% inner pages, 20–30% homepage, 5–10% to “About” or contact pages (just to simulate natural mentions).

yeahh! once website established it's smart to use backlinks for important inner pages. It builds the topical authority of a website. And after HCU core update topical authority pages ranks well.

That makes sense. But once the website established well in any type of website the homepage gets links naturally. I would suggest to focus 90% on inner pages and interlink them

In Start, I will target homepage links then only moved to the inner pages. For Business websites, Homepage is the pillar to their sub pages.

I also agree with you on this. It is important to focus on building links to inner pages, especially those that drive revenue or need more visibility. Mixing homepage and inner page links is a good strategy for improving SEO performance. It's all about finding the right balance and using smart anchor text.

Yes, I still use homepage links in guest posts when relevant and natural. It helps with brand visibility and domain authority, but I balance it with contextual links too.
